Agreed. Boxers making ignorant comments about races doesn't equate to racism. However, if a fighter is held back in his boxing career because of his race, now that's racism.

They are both from Mexico - I know people say "they are even racist against their own" - but what is it Barrera said that makes him racist?

You might want to look into Larry Holmes saying no white fighter will ever hold the WBC Heavyweight belt.

You could do an entire Term Paper on the Johnson-Jeffries match. That was what coined the phrase "The Great White Hope. Jack Johnson is my hero. He was basically the guy on my avatar, and he offended the racists of the day, much the way I offend many here at ESB!:hey

Larry Holmes versus "The Great White Hope" was racial exploitation at its finest.

He said in danish, when some reporter asked him about the fight " So, now i`m fighting this ******" translated strait to english, it doesn`t sound good at all! but in danish it doesn`t have to be racial.. it was not even "******" but another word (i dont know the english version) he could have said the same to a white guy! Tyson was his dreamfight! Nielsen is not racist, he just likes to joke around most of the time

Americans blow it up to more than it really was:bart

Cooney-Holmes was pretty bad. Don King is not a racist, as his favorite color is green. And he made sure that the Strip looked like St Patty's Day in Boston the week of the Big Fight.

The one i would look more close into was just mentioned by Thunder, around the harshest time of the Jim Crow era No one wanted Jack or anyone or BLACK complexion to get a hold on the title.. They seemed to be relying on Jeffries to save the great championship rule from the so called yellow streaked , arrogant Johnson.. The words used in written documentation by red necked Mason Dixon klannites were harsh in the extreme, They outwardly called Jack .. (The Dinge, The ****, The shade) Its painful to watch the Burns documentation , Unforgivable Blackness. Jack could have been easily killed at any of his fights.. Police stormed the ring to prevent anyone filming Burns( a white man ) from being knocked out on Tape, but never even blinked when a stricken JJ was knocked out in severe heat by Willard.....

Thanks alot fellas, actually it's not a research paper I'm doing, but a speech in a Race, Class, and Gender course over here at UNLV. However I may turn this speech into my term paper depending upon how my teacher and classmates receive my speech.
