The reason for this debate is that he isn't like Tszyu who competed for the USSR and then moved to Australia to advance his career.

Hot Rod emigrated with his family when he was a kid and has spent most of his life in America.

    Its like calling Chisora Zimbabwean.

Although, like I said, in the end, its a non-issue. He can say hes Mongolian for all I care.

Theres dozens of top boxers who can claim AT LEAST 2 nationalities, some, even more!

Yeah I know he was born in Bosnia but I was under the impression that his family must've moved to Serbia when he was very young. The reason I think I thought that is because he keeps saying he's from Serbia in interviews of his. I've also seen numerous ones that say he was actually born there too, including him saying he was born in Serbia. But either way, the original discussion we had about it was whether he was Eastern European or American. I mentioned a couple of Eastern European prospects that were coming up in a thread about Eastern European fighters and then you came along arguing he was American. I don't think you would've done that had I said Lewis was British had it been a thread about British fighters and I was just curious as to what the difference was.

I think he would consider himself Serbian first and foremost because he said he does and he reps Serbia very hard. But like I said, he also probably feels some kind of affinity and loyalty to the US, too. But he'd definitely consider himself Serbian first and foremost IMO. But it's not important so let's just leave it at that.

I've never been a particularly patriotic person really and you would never catch me wearing an England T-shirt shouting ''Come on England!'' or waving the Union Jack about. I don't know why I just never been that way. If someone where to attack the English or the British then I might get a bit defensive and give them some **** back or engage in a bit of banter etc. But other than that I find it all a bit silly. So I was never a Lewis fan. I didn't dislike him as such it was more a case there being a divide back then - you were either a Lewis fan or a Tyson fan and I was firmly in Tyson's corner. It was the same with Benn and Eubank back then as well and I was a Benn one, although I grew to appreciate Eubank a lot more later.

Also, I think the whole Bosnia/Serbia thing gets very confusing because when Hot Rod was born, those countries didn't even technically exist.

Yugoslavia didn't break up until after he was born, so it can probably get quite confusing as to where/what people identify with.

Serbia has only been Serbia in its current sense for the last 10 years, so it all gets super confusing

It doesn't matter where he was born or where he lives. He was born Serbian, raised Serbian, and is 100% Serbian in heart and sole. And that identity he is proud of.

Whatever he wants to call himself, he can call himself. makes no difference to anyone else.

Im sure if you asked him if he was American, he wouldn't say no either.
A guy can be 2...or 3 things if he wants.
    Just look at Lewis.
    Macklin was British...he also Irish.
Boxing is filled to the brim with guys who are duel nationality or more.

Guys can call themselves what they want. People get too hung up on all this.

Yeah like you. Being proud of or being interested in your ethnicity or nationality doesn't always incontrovertibly translate into being a Nazi, liberals have gotten so sensitive that the mere mention of ethnic or nationalist pride sends them into tizzies, chill out Limerickbox, people can be proud of being Irish, English, Indian, Jewish, Zimbabwean or Serbian and not reflexively hate everyone else because of it.
