Two very good bantamweights who were good all round fighters with solid textbook skills and tenacity. This would definitely be a match up for the purists. A nice chess match with some good action as well. Who would you favor between these guys?
I personally think this could be close and competitive given their styles. Davila a bit more quicker and better on his feet while Herrera was more methodical and precise in his approach. I favor Herrera but Davila will make it competitive. Castillo vs Rafael Herrera 2 and Lupe Pintor vs Alberto Davila 2 are still some of the most best fights I've seen at bantamweight that was a great combination of technically superb skills and savagery at the same time. This kind of fantasy match up would be no different.
I think I like Herrera here. Davila just seemed so small to me as a bantamweight. Not even sure if he was, but he seemed that way. To beat the top-tier guys then, he’d have to fight more outside himself, if that makes sense. He’d have to give more of himself to win. Seeing as he wasn’t a slick, tricky boxer with ironclad defense, and he wasn’t a puncher. He was going to win by out-doing you incrementally. Against the top-flight guys, that’s pretty hit or miss.
