The way Juan Manuel Marquez warred with Pacqiuao in fight 4 is the mentality of which Rafael went into everyone of his fights with Israel Vasquez. Those types of fights take alot out of you. Rafael was never the same after those fights and of course neither was Izzy. Rafael had similar skills but never used them as consistently as brother Juan. What a fighter though. Tremendous! Time to hang them up now before he suffers permanent damage if he has'nt allready. Hope Juan Manuel talks some sense into him. In fact, I hope Juan win or lose after the Bradley fight goes to Rafael and say's, "lets both call it a career bro!"
Heres to a speedy recovery. The silver lining to this cloud however is he hopefully wont fight anymore. Although that could hurt him as who knows, maybe hes hurting for money.
Was hard to watch the ffight. Always sad to see vets go out like this but seems this is the way most go.
hope he is ok. we punch fun at fighters now and then but ALL deserve our respect at the end of the day.
While I doubt Raf would ever ask, I strongly doubt Juan (who must be sitting on a nice little nest egg by now having finally secured a few late career big paydays like Pac III & IV and Mayweather) would leave him in the lurch. It might sting his pride but he should be able to lean on family and never have to reach being destitute. Signing that contract for another four , though - something must have been up there. Either he is financially insecure or he is just really not viewing himself realistically. That could have seen him competing as late as 2015, aged 40. Maybe for heavyweights that is nothing extraordinary, but down in his range...that's inadvisable even for those who didn't engage in countless wars...:-(
this is actually great news. Marquez needs to retire now, with dignity & memories of his great career, not drooling on a park bench somewhere feeding pigeons. He would never have quit on his own.
Feels like it was yesterday we all sat here clammering for Marquez-Vazquez first three fights. Such amazing fights.
So the Marquez who fought Nishioka? :think Maybe. I think if you go back three years it's a surer thing. The Marquez who fought Lopez. :good
