I re-watched the sixth, seventh and eighth rounds to see if Marquez was truly favoring his right hand as he said and this is what I found. He said in the post-fight interview that he couldn't throw his right after the third round. That's not exactly right. In fact, he landed some titanic rights during his big fourth round where he hurt Lopez. Just stating the facts. To assume that Lopez beat a one-handed Marquez is way off. Great fight and great win for Lopez but it's hard for this fan to see him beating Gamboa. In fact, I think Gamboa will have an easy time of it if he fights a disciplined fight. Just my 2 cents.
But with conviction? I didn't do a count but he seemed to totally be favoring his left hook past the 4th round. Like it was the only thing he had left.
Juanma was a beast in there. Marquez fought a great fight, I think. But, Juanma was just too young and determined. I'm dying to see him fight Gamboa. That is gonna be a classic.:smoke
Hard to say how many were with "conviction" as you say. Some were truly hard shots but even his left hooks had lost a bit of steam during those final three rounds. I suspect the beating he took had a lot to do with that. I don't doubt that his shoulder wasn't 100 percent but it's hard to imagine him not coming out for the ninth had he been the one knocking Lopez around. Professional boxers are extremely proud athletes and rarely (if ever) do they admit to being beaten. Marquez was a beaten man and would have suffered a bad knockout if he had come out. But he couldn't say that. His shoulder looked fine to me.
