WOW, it never gets old. After watching it again and scoring attentively, I didn't like Showtime's scoring or press row for that matter. I agreed with the 114-111 judge for Marquez, I initially thought Vasquez won without scoring. Many rounds were even and Marquez pulled them out by landed the most effective punch of the round and usually the most accurate. He stole a round or two late on my card.

I can understand the 1-point Vasquez win as some rounds were near impossible to score, but 114-111 V strikes me as off.

    M V

    9 9
    10 9
    8 10

    * Could've went either way. If I gave the two close M rounds to V, it would have been 113-112 V, which is what one of the judges had, which was reasonable, though I leaned Marquez in both of the two close rounds.

Anyway this fight was closer than reported, possibly because round 12 was so big for Vasquez.

Both men took severe punishment and are likely damaged heading into a 4th fight making it somewhat inconsequential, it would've been great if the 3rd bout was ruled a draw. The winner of the 4th is just whoever's chin can hold up.

  2. anyone saying there shouldn't be a 4th is kidding themselves and obviously don't like a good fight. This is one of the greatest rivalries of the modern era. The most explosive combination of styles.

this fight definitely warrants a 4th fight! It should have been a draw. All rounds were very hard to score except for the Knockdowns.

I had it 114-113 Vazquez. Epic fight, all three were classics, overall I actually rate this trilogy higher than Barrera-Morales and Gatti-Ward. All three fights were edge of your seat thrillers, would love to see a fourth although surely these two have got to start thinking of their health.
