The WBA female super bantamweight title bout is underway, in the 7th round. It's a WAR.

I'm hoping that this isn't the main event, just the co-feature (meaning we haven't missed Rafa)

There are no results up on Boxrec or Twitter for Marquez vs. Aiken yet, so this reinforces my hope..

 

These rounds are FLYING BY! (remember, 2 minutes rounds in female boxing...)

Another pier six brawl in the 8th.

La Princesa Azteca is kicking ass, but Ayala is in the fight!

Uppercuts favored by the chunkier Ayala, while Nava is hooking and crossing like mad from outside.

 

Round 9

BIG SHOTS RELAYING ACROSS THE PIPELINE!!! NAVA IS LANDING THE HARDER STUFF, BUT AYALA TAKES HER BEST ON THE CHIN AND FIRES BACK, INCENSED!! Big left hooks by Nava, to head and body!! Ayala digs away to the body, even as her face is made less and less attractive by the tenderizing hooks of La Princesa!!

 

The Azteca commentators have it 90-81 to Nava.

The fight has probably gone as the last two rounds have gone - competitive, but with Nava being the clear boss.

 

Confirmed: Rafael Marquez is getting his hands wrapped!! We haven't missed it yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nava jabs, jabs, jabs - pushing Ayala back. Overhand right by Ayala. Nava lands a hook and a looping right to either temple. Ayala rocked!! Ayala answers back with her own frantic hooks!! Nava is caught coming in but shrugs off Ayala's shots!! 1-2 by Nava!! Hard jab by Nava! Left hook to the body by Ayala!! Rapid shots traded at close range! Nava backs Ayala up with jabs and rights. Ayala wings big uppercuts while drifting back!!

Marquez sticks his jab. Aiken circles to the left. Marquez jabs the body. Double jab up top by Marquez. Aiken ducks a right hand. Marquez walks him to the ropes. Jabs chopped out by Marquez. BIG RIGHT HAND by Marquez!! Aiken hurt!! Aiken languishes against the ropes, and slides along them toward the corner!! Stupid! Back the other way along the ropes, and Marquez nails him with an uppercut!! Aiken is under heavy fire!! Jabs and chopping rights!! Aiken down to a knee!! Aiken beats the count. Marquez comes at him with a high right hand to the braids. Another. Aiken falls back to the ropes, pushing out weak jabs. Marquez jumps in on him, letting his hands go. MARQUEZ REALLY OPENS UP!! JAB, RIGHT, JAB, RIGHT, JAB, RIGHT, JAB, RIGHT, JAB, RIGHT, JAB, RIGHT!! RAPIDO, RAPIDO, RAPIDO!!!!!!!!!!!! UPPERCUT, UPPERCUT, UPPERCUT, UPPERCUT!!!! AIKEN FALLS!!!!!!!

A count is started, and then waved off!! Aiken is in no shape continue!!

He looked AMAZING. Of course, Eric Aiken isn't a wonderful opponent and last won a fight exactly six years ago - but Marquez looked very sharp and like an offensively unstoppable juggernaut, making lemonade out of lemons in his comeback bout after the loss to Nishioka.


This is sure to build his confidence.

Marquez is ready for at least one more big fight. :bbb
