    I hope this fight materializes.

I'd favor Ward heavily in this matchup. I think he'd have his way with Gennady especially if he keeps the fight in close quarters. It doesn't look like GGG enjoys fighting inside the pocket or fighting off his backfoot.

This fight can derail gennady's trajectory very quickly. It would be refreshing to see him take on someone of Ward's stature; it would be a great barometer to see how good Gennady really is.

This is just a really emotionally driven post that's completely opinion based. You sound like a crazy person, congrats.

I've said all along as well that even a shutout loss to Ward at 168 doesn't derail what Golovkin has going at 160.

This Ward fight, if it can be made, is the fight that determines whether or not GGG is pound for pound king material.

Cotto-Canelo winner definitely being more apt to fight GGG at 155 if he loses to Ward

There are other potential factors- ticket sales, site fees if an arena wants to pay to host it, etc. But the guaranteed purse portion is funded by HBO's fight budget.

That budget reached as high as $90 million in the late nineties, but the figures I've found come to $30 million for 2015.

That's why, unfortunately, there are fights that exist that are too big for regular HBO, but not a safe enough bet to put on PPV. Though this fight is one that falls into that category for me, maybe it can happen if both take a pay cut (or fight for less than what they deserve for it) and it goes to the highest revenue venue.

15 years ago, this fight could be funded on regular HBO, no problem. Now, that fight alone could cost close to 20% of their annual budget. Sucks for fans, but that's the climate. PPV subsidizes that.

The Triple Duck is *not* the champion @ 160.

    $50 PPV x 300k PPV buys = $15 million dollars.

That's $7.5 million in the pot.

This fight is very doable on PPV IMO...

If Ward beats GGG and Kovalev, he will surpass Floyd's record. By far.

No, he wouldn't. Floyd has better scalps on his resume...

He won't beat both. In fact I doubt that he beats one of the two.

there isn't, I'm a big GGG fan, but I find the 164 lbs CW ridiculous, especially since K2 called out Froch and Chavez Jr at the full SMW limit

that being said, I ask once again: how is GGG ducking Lara and Ward, or visa verse, since all 3 fight in different weight classes? if anyone is ducking, it Cotto ducking his mandatory, GGG

Oh Barcham, thank you for taking the time to teach me the ways of pound for pound lists. Actually, i do have a clue as to how pound for pound works and I am well aware that one can stay in the same weight class and prove pound for pound greatness but what I was pointing out is the Ward fight is a chance for GGG to prove he is on the same level as Ward regarding pound for pound stature.

If Ward can fight at 172 and fought in the ams at 175 why can't he fight kovalev a guy his size?
