Just reading "Raging Bull" which I somehow missed in my 53 years. A really good read, great even maybe, but I cant take to Jake, and I'm no angel myself by any stretch. Any opinions out there on the BOOK?

If you think hes a bad guy in this one you should read Raging Bull II, he comes off as even worse of a low life piece of ****. But yes, this one is bad. He basically admits to raping two women, and attempted murder.

Could go on for pages, r. One incident comes to mind. Don't remember which fighter it was. When the ref was givin' instructions, Jake said to his opponent: "Im gonna drink your blood".

Actually got to know Jake (aside from seein' him daily with bud Pete Savage at P.J. Clark ) after he hung' em up. Went to the same theater workshop N.Y, 'n did a low-budget feature in '60 with him in Fla.

Yes I saw him in NY fight and I once had a friend at my house who LaMotta kod in one round in the 1940s...Either my friend had a glass jaw or Jake could hit harder than we thought ...

I started reading Raging Bull a few months ago. I got annoyed and had to put it down. This is going to sound silly, but it was the conversations he/the ghost writer recorded. Full conversations from his teenage years. I found that distracting because I couldn't stop wondering how the hell he remembered so many exact statements.

Anyway, it sits in my corner now, barely bent. Now I'm reading "The Worst Hard Time" by Timothy Egan. It's good. No impossibly remembered conversations from long ago.

Never take a woman's word at face value. She had an obvious agenda and surely embellished LaMotta's actions to the millionth degree. By the end of the book LaMotta was sitting on death row with Ted Bundy I bet! lol

Agreed. Not doubt Jake was a bad guy, but she married him and stayed with him a long time. Not a great indictment on her.

She married him when she was 16 ffs...that should make no difference anyway.

It is no secret Lamotta used to beat her badly...and this maybe acceptable where you comne from...but where i come from these people are considered lowlife scum!

She stayed with him out of fear, and was nearly beaten to death as a consequence. He wasnt just a bad guy he was a complete *****! He makes Tyson look like Mother Teresa
