That opponent seems about right for Rahman. Last time I saw Rahman in a ring he looked like he belonged in the bum leagues. :deal He's an old, washed-up, overweight bum.
Didnt Rahman have a big lump on his head once?? :yep And yes i think hes hopeless.........and it'd be great to see him and Tua fight.....
Even if it's billion to one odds...He wants to try and return the favor for THIS: This content is protected
I certainly can't think of any other fighters at all that have come back after over a year off and taken on a soft-touch opponent. Absolutely none at all. Zero! Rahman seems shot but damn, attacking him on this? You'd better have an awful lot of bile to go round.
If you've seen Rahman in his last few you know that he is shot. He's been off for a while and if he would have faced anyone with a pulse he could get beat. He struggled with a few journeymen when he was active and that was 2-3 years ago. He's just playing it very safe, getting rounds in, and getting his name out there again until he lands a big payday fight. Rahman still has name value to offer and is going to cash in on that. But he has nothing left in the ring. He's fought top competition for years now so I don't see a problem with him facing this guy considering his condition. He'll probably fight a few more just like this until he cashes out. Rahman is very low risk and high reward at this point.
Looks like Rahman will be on the April 13 card in Florida. He stated in an interview with another site (b o x i n g t a l k) that he would be on a card in Florida in April. Turns out Shannon Briggs is on an April 13 card in FL as well. They both fight under the same company. Nice to see Rahman take 2 fights within 3 weeks of each other. I love activity from fighters. Not this once a year, twice a year bull****.
Plus it's just different in Thailand. 2/3rds of those guys who are officially making pro debuts or who have just had a few pro fights are experienced professional kickboxers / Muay Thai fighters who take a non-kick boxing match here or there to make some money on the side. There are a bunch of guys with those backgrounds who won titles in their first 6 or 7 fights because of that.
I would love to see him fight before he retires as well, but I just don't know if I will ever get the opportunity.
I think you guys are both pretty right. Yes Rahman has a good jab for any pro HW and his hands are heavier than the average HW, but he is often sloppy and inaccurate and has looked very ordinary in many fights because he doesn't always use his strength (fighting off the jab) and he often comes in way too heavy. He was a very dangerous hw for a couple years around the early 2000's and a decent hw at times more recently (where he wasn't as explosive, often plodding, but had enough ability to do farily well with the mediocre contenders of the era around 2005-2008). Rahman is an enigma and wasted his best years through underpreparation BTW i see no disgrace in rahman taking this fight: it's how he makes his money, he's probably been in even worse shape than usual due to inactivity, and it's good to get a little momentum. It would be a disgrace if Rahman were to some how be in line for an eliminator off of this and another fight or two versus similar comp
