While I agree that Toney is no longer in his prime, I don't consider him as done. It was the general consensus, in regard of the 2nd Rahman fight, that Toney showed up in much better shape than in his previous outings against Peter and Batchhelder. Toney seemed fitter, weighing in at his lowest weight since 2003, and much more importantly recovered some of his defensive reflexes which seemed to be long gone. Just watch the fight on you tube with some objectivity and convince yourself.
I've watched it once, but ill take another look. i think to be honest i have lost patience with toney, he could have been such a credit to the sport but let all that slip through his burger and steriod eating fingers (to the point where i never believe anything he says or expect anything from him that isnt controversey).
I can definetely undertstand your bitterness, Toney's constant up's and down's can be frustrating at times...
according to haye (on Setanta yesterday), no final offers have been made as all potential opponents have asked for an amount which would result in them getting paid a lot more than haye would get himself. also said he'd name an opponent within 10 days, but he also said by the end of August so i don't know. i just hope an opponent gets at least 8 weeks notice to prepare and offer a decent fight.
when he moved up to heavy and tactically and systematically destroyed holyfield i was too sure he would be the one to unify the division, he was quick enough to get around the big guys jabs and he was definatelly the best technichal fighter out there, then all of a sudden he seemed to have lost all motivation and decided in beating someone he looked up to so much he'd accomplished all he set out to do. It's sad too cause stylistically he could beat any of the heavys out there cause he brings movement, different dimensions, speed and power, agillity, and an abundance of awkwardness. James Toney in my eyes is similar to Mike Tyson as far as his heavyweight career goes, he really couldve and shouldve been the man at the division right now cause of hes speed and unpredictable counter punching
Toney fights these days like he just wants to get done with it and get his paycheque.. He is multi skilled but doesnt always want to tap into those higher gears......... I fear that James has just about drawn the curtains on his career...... He has been a great credit.........
Bonin v Harrison was a close call...... "Everything Audley does i can do better, " Audley wannabee........ What do ya call two loud mouth clowns , with fancy braids that talk a lot about dominating the heavyweights.. that hail from Britain.. yet produce very little and come with shaky chins..?? The H - Brothers.. Haye - Harrison Inc.... H-Farce.. LOL
The big problem with Haye's money argument is that if he did want to fight Maskaev the man actually does earn more money than Haye. He will be fighting on NTV (110 million households) and in front of 25,000 people in Moscow, Haye has never reached an audience that big. For Rahman and Toney it is true neither are the draw that he is, but enough already he just needs to fight someone.
Well, he certainly won't say bring on Toney. Rahman just wants a big payday, his heart is not into it anymore.
