Former boxing heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman is coming to MMA sometime this year, according to the fighter’s agent.

“He thought it would be an interesting thing. He’s seen Kimbo Slice fight on TV, and he’s like, ‘I’d like to fight some of these guys,’” said Gelke.

Gelke said that the 36-year-old Rahman is “quite serious about fighting in MMA” and they are currently in negotiations with several promotions, hoping to line up a debut fight sometime in the next 2-3 months.

He was actually quite a streetfighter (in Baltimore) so people said he should box,” Gelke said of Rahman, who took up boxing at the relatively late age of 20. “He’s like Quinton (Jackson) and Kimbo in that sense. We’re talking to quite a few different organizations, from small promotions up to the big ones. We’re looking to fight name fighters like Kimbo, Butterbean.....I’m looking to put him in with someone like Tank Abbott, or James Thompson,” someone to bring a name to the table.”

Rahman should win his first couple fights in MMA, he's going for the journeyman first.

No way, Rahman would KO him in boxing for sure. Or UD him if he's being cautious.

[FONT=&quot]I doubt the fight will happen. That said, I thought Mercer would kill Kimbo. He didn't. If Kimbo decided to stand with Rahman I think he would probably get knocked the **** out. However, I could see this going like the Mercer fight with a takedown and a submission. I don't get the sense that Rahman is taking this proposed transition very seriously.

Also, I read somewhere that Rahman was open to fighting in Japan. That strikes me as a bad idea. The Japanese love past their prime boxers. You can book them against the best kick boxers in the world or put them in MMA fights with guys who can kill them. ****, I wouldn't put it past World Victory Road to book Rahman against Muhammed Lawal.

Also, Lord knows what K-1/DREAM could or would do with him. It’s possible they could treat us to a freak show fight like Rahman/Butterbean. They could just as easily do something a tad more sinister, Rahman Vs Overeem or something.

Don Frye, Ken Shamrock, and Hasim Rahman as potential main eventers.
