Gotta think that Rock's problem is, like Getup says, lack of discipline (like many HWs) and getting too big outside of camp. Rock's definitely a huge guy (naturally muscular and somewhat "big boned"), but 245 is big for any 6'2 cardiovascularly fit athelete and it's got hurt his agility and explosiveness (at least later in a fight). Yes, it's harder to lose weight as you age, but for someone who's 35 and has no other 'job' than to work out, it's definitely doable in a healthy manner.
Listen. Comparisons to Holyfield are irrational . Holyfield is a light-heavyweight who came up to heavyweight. I know for a fact that the hard part for Holyfield was retaining weight not losing it. I would also bet my life he does so with the assistance of performance enhancing drugs. As for Rocks weight. He also weighed in at 217 for one fight. So by the logic of some I should work to get him back to 217. There is one thing and one thing only that is important. How he performs. He worked hard in the gym. Took weight off the proper way, and was performing extremely well in his workouts and sparring. Would I like to se him come down a few more pound? Yes I would. But only if done the right way over time. 238-240 is what I am shooting for next fight. He was at 237 at one point about 2 weeks ago. I must say that both camps felt the scale was heavy as both James and Rock were 6 pounds lighter on another scale.
mjust have just been put up..i cehcked 15 minutes ago.... rock looks in good shape in my opinion..Toney looks alright...better than he has lately..still somewhat of a gut..
You are right that he has gotten to heavy in the past. But a slow steady weight loss is better then a drastic unhealthy one. Body mass index is not an accurate measure of a persons ability to be aerobically and anaerobically fit, and to say that you can not be fit at 6'2.5 244lbs is wrong as well. The picture in my avatar is of me and I am 6'1 245.
look mate im not coparing him to holy..,holys an ectomorph rock isnt. what i am saying is that holy is at the same weight now as he was at 28..,now holy does need to work to keep it on..,but bowe I he didnt came in at 205 and suffered.., what im saying is the rock around 23o is most ideal.his best fights are at that weight.i dont care how good a fighter looks in camp.8th,9th 10th 11th and 12th rounds under those light in an arena(more heat because of 10-20k people)...,always tells. what was good before is good now..,seems like rock might suffer the weight issue more that JT IN this fight..,goodluck though i know how tough it is to get athletes around..,you look pretty fit in your pic too!good on ya mate! DAN SEASON
YOUR FIT BUT YOUR NOT THE ONE going 12 with the great counter puncher alive. his 244 most likely represents a 20lb fat gain from his optimal weight mate.., can you tell me otherwise?
Conditioner101, I'm curious, how long have you been with Rahman? Have you worked with other fighters?
You're stats do seem to prove you're point (that 245 and about that size can mean physically fit) and like i said i'm sure you'd know more than me. I definitely agree about the gradual process and Rock hopefully (if he plans to continue) will keep up with his fitness even after the fight. Rock just needs to keep at it. He, unlike you, does appear to have a little too much mass (a good portion of that being too much fat) and he didn't appear in his latest fights to be fit enough to do what he wanted to do. But it definitely appears that you got him to do a lot of work in camp and got him going in the right direction. I'm pulling for Rock, just because I think he could still make some noise if he continues to work and stay active. Toney, on the other hand, is done even if he could get by Rock. Even 4 years ago, he's just too undersized to beat any good big HW and now he's 40 and still out of shape.
