There's definitely unfinished business, and I also think Toney would beat Rahman if they met again. Toney may be shot, but so is Rahman. However, I don't think it will happen. In Rahman-Toney I, Rahman was at his best while Toney was fatter and lazier than ever, but he still couldn't get more than a draw. Rahman only took the rematch because he thought Toney was shot to pieces after the Peter II and Batchelder debacles, but as soon as he realized that Toney was gonna put up a fight he looked for a way out, and he managed to get the NC. No way he wants to step into the ring with Toney again.
I could still get hyped for this fight as I am both a Rahman fan and a Toney fan, even in this stage of their careers. I agree with what was said about Toney fighting Rahman before Tarver while Tarver gets his tune-up vs. a cruiserweight.
I really believe that Rahman would retire if he lost, but Toney...I don't see him retiring because of a loss to Rahman sadly.:-(
Toney should definitely retire if he loses another fight. He only really lost to Sam Peter at HW tho.
they are both done! But toney could win Rahman who looked bad against wlad! As for Tarver I think he has no business at heavyweight division! He could maybe outbox Toney! By running!
You know I'm a Toney fan first and foremost, so I think the most meaningful option for him right now is to fight Solis, and why not in a WBC eliminator? If he can't beat a prospect like Solis anymore, there's no need for him to continue his desperate quest for one last title-fight at HW. A rematch with Rahman would lead nowhere (the same goes for a fight with Tarver btw).
Tarver running all night and winning a close boring decision would be the worst thing that could happen to Toney at this stage of his career
I agree Frost, the fight doesn't make that much sense other than to settle unfinished business. So how about this...if Toney loses his next fight, then we see Rahman vs. Toney 3 as either a farewell fight for both guys, or a loser retires and winner gets one last big fight?
Good idea, I think it would be a good farewell fight for both men then. And I wouldn't like to see Toney retire with a loss hehe.. at least Rahman was a legitimate HW champ once, if only for a short while. That was no lucky punch against Lewis - Rahman just landed a good punch that Lewis couldn't take, just like Oli McCall did. That doesn't mean McCall or Rahman are better than Lewis was - but it is what it is. At the end of the day, they both have KO wins over Lewis, and nobody can take these wins away. But as I said earlier, I doubt Rahman is willing to step into the ring with Toney again. Unless he'd get a big paycheck, which is improbable..
I don't want to see these 2 fight. I was at toney's last fight at pachenko down here in san diego and it was not pretty.
Charles, what do you think about Toney-Ruiz II then? There's unfinished business there too. I'd be possible if Ruiz loses to Haye (which isn't a given imo). Or what if Ruiz upset Haye, what about Haye vs. Toney then? I know it'd probably not happen since that prettyboy Haye has ducked Toney already..
