Although he is starting a little old as a pro, I like the way he goes to the body...with the right trainer this guy can be a factor in both divisions Cruiser and Heavyweight if he stays fit..He is not a killer puncher but I love the body work...he needs an old school classic trainer like a Charlie Goldman Freddie Brown guy but who is alive that can teach him? Chakhkiev is an old school throwback fighter who doesn't mind getting hit as long as he can land his bombs. Built like a tank, with a dangerous hook, I think he's going to be the champion at Crusier Weight. A former Gold Medal winner at heavyweight in the World Amateur champions,Chakhkiev is perhaps the most watchable of the up and coming fighters if you like watching aggressive punchers. Chahkiev is a tad short for the modern heavyweight division, but might be able to make some noise there if he moved up because he's very tough, and hits harder than most heavies. Here are some clips from his amateur and pro fights. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1W7sv_u1Ic&feature=related[/ame]
3:10 When was the last time you saw a guy literally need to be carried out of the ring on a stretch? Chakhkiev is a brutal brutal puncher. (yeah the Germans butcher his name like always) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxcCYLjiYak[/ame] As for moving up to HW he's only 6'0. Ibragimov wasn't much more than that but Sultan had the footwork which Chakhkiev lacks. He's a straight slugger and doesn't have the boxing ability that a small HW needs like Ibragimov or Adamek imo. Although his power and body punching would be good assets for a smaller guy at HW He could have some success but any tall HW who could box him would present real problems, that's why he struggled vs Romanchuk so much in the Amateurs. His 1 win vs Romanchuk was due to Roman's love of slugging himself and he decided to brawl with him (decision was close and questionable too) but any HW that was committed to boxing him would win i think. He's also been down a few times in the Amateurs, several times vs Romanchuk alone. Regarding you trainer comment i hate when Eastern Europeans hook up with trainers outside their school. 90% of the time they become much much worse boxers. I wouldn't want to see Chakhkiev do that. The fact that he's with 'career killer' Universum is my biggest concern for his career at the moment. P.S. I'll always love Chakhkiev for beating that ****** Russo at the Olympics.
Yeah, every fighter who is with Universum right now has a question mark behind his career. I had high hopes for Culcay. Not so much anymore. Bummy, what do you think of Helenius body punching. Despite his size he loves to go to the body and this left-hook to the body is very heavy.
Good points, but tall heavies with a jab are always going to present problems for shorter ones. The Amateur and the Pro's are different games. I think Chakhkiev would KO Romanchuck in the pro's. Many were impressed with Boystov early in his career. Boystov is only 6'. If you ask me Chakhiev hits harder, is braver, and takes a better punch in comparison to Boystov. I think Chakhiev can be a champion at cruiser weight, or very good heavyweight top ten level heavyweight. While is he a tad short, his aggressive style, and power would give him a shot vs. anyone in 2 more years.
His right is a very good punch overall, I´d argue that right now only Wlad has a better one amongst the hws - and the hw Pavlik is still only a rookie more or less. But I think he get´s more leverage and pop on hit left hook to the body. But he is a surprisingly good body puncher for such a tall man with such a good reach. More variaty in his punches than either Klitschko too. I really think Helenius might end up becoming a very good hw.
I like Helenius and I think at this stage he has shown a good arsenal. Power is essential in the heavyweight ranks and body punching is very important in draining the gas tank and making the legs go. I think the fight with Peter will be a good test, Peter still has some life in him and he knows a win can put him right back in line for a title shot with the Klitschko's looking to get out in the next few years and Haye as well. I like Helenius to win and it would be impressive if he stops Peter.
Russo was impressive but more of a mover, he was even shorter than Chakhkiev at 5"9 and would have to move down in weight for the pro's. I think Chakhkiev is better suited for the pro's. I like a few prospects coming out of the East. As far as trainers, when it comes to the pro's There are some excellent trainers but I agree, a trainer should not take a fighter away from his strengths but build around them...a good finishing trainer like Angelo Dundee was for Ali and Leonard can make a big difference but there are not many trainers with that level of experience or time anymore.
Helenius just KO Peter cold. He has a a lot of power. While not on Klitschko's level as a boxer, I think he might be the next champion in a post Klitschko era.
I'll always hate Russo due to his 2008 Olympic fight vs Usyk. He would run, run, run for 30 seconds then throw 1 looping hook, arm completely straight, that would land as a slap with the inside of the glove on the back of Usyk's head and he would get a point for it even though it was a rabbit punch. Run, run run another 30 seconds same thing. They even awarded 2 or 3 points for shots that completely missed. Hand to God it was the most disgraceful ****ing performance and judging i've ever seen in amateur boxing. Admittidly i'v seen 2 of his WSB fights and he's more aggressive, throws combos and is more exciting but i'll always hate his ****ing guts and hope he gets hit by a bus. I also don't like his face, it looks like he sucks alot of **** in his free time away from the ring. I have 3 of their fights and even though Roman boxed more in the 2004 and 2006 fights they still exchanged a hell of alot and Roman was never hurt while Chakhkiev was down multiple times. Roman also was never hurt in slugfests with Cammarelle and 3X against Solis. How you think he KO's Romanchuk is beyond me. Also Boytsov's chin is still somewhat of an unknown (although his Pala fight convinced me it's rather sturdy) but has never been hurt. How you say Chakhkiev has a better chin when he's been down vs CW's sized guys in the Amateurs...? I really like Chakhkiev and do expect him to get a belt at CW, i'd love to see him **** Huck, but HW i don't think he would be successful at although i'd certianly enjoy watching him try it.
