I think a Prime RJJ could quite possibly KO any mma fighter within range the 1/100th of a second it made a move in his direction. To say the fight would not last minutes is ridiculous at best and horribly insulting at worst.

and you think Jimmerson and Toney gave an honest effort? Jimmerson came with every intention of quitting in the first moment the fight went to the ground, he tapped without even being in a submission. If Toney was serious he would have trained with a real MMA camp and come better prepared and at least in shape.

Nobody disputes that you need to cross-train, entering a different sport and not adapting is suicide.

Randy is still top 15 LHW, and a UFC HOF. Toney is not even top 25 in his sport and in his debut he fought an Olympic alternate wrestler with minimal, half-assed ground training,

You must not know Renzo very well. Renzo in addition to his BJJ Blackbelt is a Judo Blackbelt and almost his entire Jiujitsu game is based off his top game. I took a 3 hour seminar under the man nearly every move taught was a top game move. Go watch his last win vs Frank Shamrock 3 years ago he was nailing single legs like Frank was a child. I cant recall many Renzo fights where he pulls guard.

 

Wrestlers have huge advantage over the average boxer but Roy Jones of 1995 was as perfect outside fighter you can get. Roy v Toney/Pazienza style perfection. Extremely cautious with clinical precision, if boxing has a chance against wrestling it isn't against an aged and reckless pocket fighter with no rhythm(Toney). I dont think Roy would have given a wrestler anything.

Superior boxing footwork and having all the angles of outside punching and Cro Cop takedown defense will beat a wrestler.

 

In 1995 nobody but a handful of people had any clue about what happened in MMA fights. Jones would have went in there thinking "I'll knock this little Brazilian out no problem" and been on the ground before he knew what happened.

Ralph didn't **** around, he had been fighting people trying to hit him his whole life; not as good as Roy obvously, but he knew damn well how to get a striker with no takedown defense down.

Boxing footwork isn't inherently better than any other styles, it's much better for boxing, but a top karate fighter for example would be better at getting in and out without exposing his legs as much, simply because of the rules of the sport.

What I find funny is that what could a boxer really bring to an MMA fight that any other fighter with one discipline bring to an MMA fight ?

I mean if a kick boxer only knows kick boxing he won't last to long in an MMA fight its a no brainer ..If these mma fighters are so tough why not get in a boxing ring Watch how they too will get schooled ! At leat Toney had the balls to try it tell me when the likes of Coture or even Lesner would dare put on the gloves and challenge a pro boxer ?? It will never happen !!
