I thought Loma displayed much of the athleticism and skills that should make this kid a compelling watch for the next few years. I have also watched the fight a couple of times now and I am perplexed with the "Loma gets hit too much" commentary. The kid has always been a very good defensive fighter, and Ramirez landed very little of substance in the fight (many of his shots were hit gloves, arms ect). Ramirez himself echoes those remarks in his post fight interviews: "He's incredibly fast. I knew what I was getting into. He was just too much for me. I tried to attack to him, but nothing happened. I couldn't land anything solid on him." http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/9816940/orlando-salido-spoils-orlando-cruz-story-tko Now, before you pricks go calling me a Lomatard, I will be the first to say that he is not ready for Rigo nor am I ready to annoit him anything other than a brilliant prospect.
Apparently it's required to say he wouldn't beat Rigondeaux (ever) if you decide to give praises to Lomachenko otherwise you're bound to see a bunch of people rush in to downplay his performance.
I never said "never." I simply said he's not ready for Rigo at the moment. Two years from now, I would bet it's something close to a pick 'em fight.
Lomas performance is repeatedly slated in the same way that gggs has been in that 'he gets hit too much'. In both cases the amateur standouts are masters in doing just enough to avoid getting hit cleanly without breaking their own momentum. The shots that look like they hit (and are often called by commentary) actually turn out on a second viewing to have been millimetrically slipped, blocked or turned to just graze by. Macklin said a similar thing 'bout triple G, for all that detractors had been saying Golovkin gets hit too much, Macklin was clear in describing how hard it is to hit him clean; that in fact his power is a secondary factor, simply an added bonus to his boxing skill.
I know, it wasn't directed to you and i didn't imply that's that you said. Nobody can know for sure yet what he will achieve and i think it's equally foolish to say he'll clear the whole division and whoop anybody or he'll definitely lose to a certain boxer.
:good I just figured I'd sound off on the topic. I've watched a **** load of this kid's fights, and that the one thing I have always been impressed with is his defensive acumen. Honestly I am not sure what ****ing fight a lot of these critics were watching when they opine that he "gets hit too often." Ramirez doesn't even support that claim. :rofl
Lomachenko and Rigondeaux have very different but very effective defenses. I'm really looking forward to seeing the connect percentages when they finally do meet up.
