Evans was supposed to fight Shogun for the title

Evans got injured, Jones fought Shogun instead,

Evans was set to fight Jones for the title,

Jones got injured, Evans fights Davis and Jones fights Rampage at a later date

Evans was supposed to get the title shot against Shogun, but got injured. Then, Jones got injured and was contemplating surgery. Make no mistake though, Jones was declared healthy enough to fight weeks ago. If the UFC really wanted give Rashad a title shot, they'd have more than enough time to scrap his fight against Davis and promote his championship fight with Jones. Jackson is getting the next title shot because Zuffa management believes (rightfully so) that he'll sell more PPVs in a fight against Jones than Rashad will.

This is a much more interesting fight to me than the Rashad fight at this point because Rampage seems to represent more of a threat to the lesser experienced champion than Evans.

Then you would be hugely mistaken.

Jones runs through Jackson just as he does everyone else. It won't even be close.
