Quite simply, he need's to watch the Griffin fight the night before, do the boxing basics in keeping his hands up and circle out when in range and take confidence that he has the finishing ability that Forrest lacks
And this is why I would give Machida or Anderson a better chance than anybody with Jones right now. Both are outstanding at gauging distance, have sublime footwork and create lovely counter angles, and both are excellent at getting in and out of range quickly while also landing solid shots. Machida also has good takedown defense and while he's never been in the clinch with a wrestler as solid as Jones he does at least have better than the typical Brazilian "fall over as soon as your legs are wrapped" sprawl. Anderson on the other hand would have trouble staying upright and would really need to avoid going to the mat at all costs because regardless of his reputation as a guard whiz he really justs wraps opponents up and has only submitted an extremely gassed and weight drained Lutter, Henderson who was so punch drunk that he didn't know he was being choked, and Sonnen who could get triangled by a clothes hanger. Anderson would have a great chance on the feet because he's simply a more polished striker than Jones but Jones probably wouldn't chance it and would just beat him up on the floor. Either way, confidence or no confidence, Rampage doesn't really have the tools to win this one and it'll take good fortune on Rampage's part and a shaky chin on Jones' for that one good punch to land and give him a chance.
Well Bonnar has 'decent' boxing in terms footwork and putting combo's together, and he hung tough in there with Jones. He was outclassed in the grappling, but the striking was not so onesided if I remember correctly. So I do think he has holes in his striking that can be exploited by the likes of Machida and Silver We havent really seen him in with a striker since (Shogun aside, he coped more that well, but he managed to overwhelm him before he even threw a strike) and I dont think Silver will fight at LHW again. Id like to see how he does against a counter striker as that's the one style he's yet to face realy Maybe he has a 'glass jaw' (yeah I said it) or maybe Machida hasnt got the power to keep Jones from dictating the range and closing the distance for the TD. We havent really seen him deal with something as simple with leg kicks and Lyoto's knees to the body's are formidable themselves. Will be a true bull v matador fight
I may agree with the Machida bit. But if Lutter was taking Silva down at will then he'll be in for a long night with Jones. Note that Lutter is probably the most unathletic MMA fighter there is.
Did you read the entire post or did you zone in on that bit and then post? I imagine you did the latter because a few sentences down you'll see where I said that Silva would have a hell of a time staying upright to land those strikes.atsch
My Bad, the first paragraph sidetracked me because all those traits will not help Silva one Iota, not even his "sublime" footwork. Now Machidas pretty sturdy and seems to have a good base, elusive enough and very patient. But I dont think he can play the counter punch game against a thinking fighter with a wingspan of Jones.
Jones went on to say that he was actually outraged by Rampage turning his back on him during the press conference and that he was going to take it out on him in the fight. Jones is just pissed off that he not only wasn't able to intimidate Jackson, he also made a total fool of himself. I wish we were talking about a Rampage in his prime for this fight. http://www.addictedmma.com/story-News_3787_Jon-Jones-I039m-Outraged-And-You039ll-See-.php Good grief. How can you become outraged over THAT? Jones also said that he refuses to sign replica title belts for fans because he worked too hard to earn the real one. This guy is losing a lot of fan base if you follow the forums. This is so childish and ridiculous. http://middleeasy.com/index.php?opt...-too-much-like-his-own&catid=34:organizations
Seriously? Did you listen to the interview where he said that? It was on a radio show and he was laughing and joking around with Rampage, it was a totally sarcastic comment.
I didn't hear the original interview. If what you're saying is true then perhaps the quote has been misconstrued.
I love it!!! Rampage needs to continue playing this head games with Jones. I cant even remember the last time Jones looked irritated at a opponents comments!
