I get the sense that Sonnen is preoccupied with the fear of being hurt and it's affecting his fighting ability. If he starts getting the worst of it he might look for a way out.
Bellator ****ed up putting this garbage fight as main event over the title fight imo. Rory beating Lima was a great fight and what they should have been promoting if they want to improve and had this fight as the sideshow that it was on what was a decent main card overall.
Jackson lacks the motivation to compete at any real level these days. If he came in at 230 he'd still probably be decent.
Absolutely pathetic display from Rampage. Sonnen was even beating him on the feet with his standup. Sick of seeing bellator showcase these joke freakshow fights over elite fighters like Rory but I guess that is what the clueless dumb casuals want to see.
I don't get that either. Maybe it's some sort of contract stipulation? Because there's no rhyme or reason to it... They can still get the casual views by having these fights a few slots down on the main card. Main card should have been as followed Douglas Lima vs. Rory MacDonald Michael Chandler vs. Goiti Yamauchi Chael Sonnen vs. Quinton Jackson Henry Corrales vs. Georgi Karakhanyan Aaron Pico vs. Shane Krutchen
I just sat down and watched Chandler/Yamauchi and Chandler is still definitely the LW to beat outside of the UFC and still top 10 in the world. He completely dominated a great prospect start to finish on the mat and on the feet(apart from a kick that briefly buzzed him) the loss to Primus was obviously a fluke injury. He gets that one back in devastating fashion.
MacDonald will be hard to beat in Bellator. But I still wouldn't completely count out Koreshkov or Lima in a rematch. Lima had a fair bit of success with his kicks and stand up in general - it was by no means a walk in the park for MacDonald, he definitely showed a bit of heart for once. His tendency to quit when the going gets tough was definitely a worry going into this one. Would definitely like to see him and Koreshkov throw down next.
I think Sonnen will get Ko'd by one of the real heavyweights. This tournament is fun at least. I love tournaments
I probably would pick Fedor but I think Sonnen would have a chance if Fedor beats Mir but Mir submits him within the 1st 2 rounds if they fight.
Are you talking about Rory quitting when the going gets tough? I think thats a bit unfair, the only 2 fights he lost via stoppage was in the last round of absolute wars that where ranked fights of the night and fight of the year by many in the respective years against Condit and Lawler. He didn't quit imo in either loss that Lawler fight he had absorbed more punishment over those 5 rounds then some take over the course of several fights. He finally collapsed and took more damage on the ground before the ref stopped it. In the Condit fight he was ahead after winning the 1st 2 rounds before the referee stopped the fight in the 3rd and final rounds 10 seconds before the end of the round with plenty saying it was a bull**** stoppage.I'm sorry if it was Lima you were talking about but even he I wouldn't class as a quitter.
He choked in 2 of the biggest fights of his career. He sees the bell against Lawler and he's the new Welterweight champion. Relative to a lot of elite fighters he's lacking in that department based on how his career as gone done.
The only fight that could be considered a choke in any way was the Lawler fight which under the circumstances clearly wasn't. Somebody like Sonnen is the best example of a choke. He who won every round taking little damage and just had to stay away and survive the last round against Silva to become champ. There was no shame in losing that war with Lawler and it wasn't clear till afterwards that Rory was ahead on the scorecards. It was after having his nose shattered into a million pieces and after taking so much damage that it was stopped. I'd be interested who you think could have kept taking that damage considering you claim he is lacking in that departmentb compared to other elite fighters? Lawler hasn't been the same fighter since and I thought after Rory lost to wonderboy that it may have had a similar effect and been the end of his time as an elite fighter. At just 28 as long as he has no long term effects he has more then enough time to be have success in both Bellator and the UFC
