Dave Meltzer is reporting exclusively on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Dana White and Joe Silva have already have "an idea" in regards to the 205 lb title picture. Dave believes every source within the UFC believes that the winner of Liddell/Evans fight is going to be the next challenger for the Light Heavyweight Crown recently won by Forrest Griffin. The timing at which the fight takes place depends on who wins the fight. If Liddell were the victor, the title fight would take almost immediately at the year-end December event from Las Vegas with Forrest Griffin. Although none of the UFC personalities would admit who they are rooting for between Evans/Liddell, it is pretty apparent they want the latter to emerge victorious. A fight between Liddell and Forrest Griffin could very well break the Pay-Per-View and Gate records set by UFC 66 (Liddell/Ortiz II). The UFC officials are not sure when a Griffin/Evans fight would take place, but they believe it would not happen this year. As for the future of Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, it is believed that his next opponent will be none other than nemesis Wanderlei Silva. This could fight could very well happen later this year in November, at UFC 90. Dave Meltzer also believes that if Liddell recaptures the Light Heavyweight Crown, Silva/Liddell II will be for the Light Heavyweight Championship at the "Super Bowl" event in February. As for Lyoto Machida, most sources believe he is a possibility for Jackson as well, but maintain that his next fight is likely against Thiago Silva instead. Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter :goodI love it.
Sounds like Lyoto is going to be looked over because he isn't exciting enough. Maybe he should tell the newspapers that the UFC is racist and only likes white fighters. lol
Machida keeps getting the toughest fights out there in hopes of him losing, I think. The man deserves a title shot immediately because he's going to keep mowing them down as fast as Dana and Co. line them up.
You know , i wouldn't say that they're racist but i'd say that because of the likes of Dana white & co...They're doing everything in their power give the belt back to their cash cow and best friend (outside of the ufc) , chuck Liddell... Here's the plan... They hope that Liddell will beat Evans... if it happens , they'll propulse Liddell for a direct title shot against Griffin and from there , they think that it'll be "the" oportunity for chuck to win the belt back... In reality , what they should do....is either A - have an instant rematch jackson vs griffin OR B - Machida should be the first in line to grab the belt... But , since Machida would be an absolute nightmare as a ufc "champion"...(hard to beat , wins by decisions , patient and boring but technical fighter)....they're going to give the priority to someone else...
You're right on Liddell. If he beats Rasahad, he's getting the first crack at Forrest. Either that or they give Forrest a gimme fight. Those two guys are known among the casual fans, and the UFC sure loves that. I can see them wanting to build off Forrest's popularity and make him the next Liddell, considering Chuck's age. That means we may see Stephan Bonnar get a title shot before Lyoto atsch
I don't think its surprising they way they treat Machida because most of us expected it due to his style. It is a **** take and boxingcar is right, they make it easier for the poster boys (Chuck, Franklin) to get there title shots. Yushin Okami is another guy they who they treated badly and made it as difficult for him as possible to get a title shot.
Thiago has looked good in every fight hes had and has finished every fight but 1, 9 of them in the first round. Really the only thing Machida has done to put himself ahead of Thiago in the line is beat Tito, acting like this fight is somehow beneath Machida is silly. I actually think Thiago will win this fight if it happens. Asking a guy to show a slight hint of aggresion in a fight isn't asking too much.
Come on, he hasn't beat a top guy yet. I think he could probably take any of them on any given night, but Heath-Nakamura-Soku-Old Ortiz isn't the cream of the crop. Guys like Jardine have beaten more A-level guys than he has, so a title shot will probably be a fight or two off. Thiago Silva is a perfect fight for him.
