    Take a look at Welterweight:
At the top, we have Porter, Thurman, Spence and Brook - they're HUGE. This is the biggest Welterweight era in modern times, EVER.

Can't believe I almost forgot to mention Robert Easter Jr, one of the shining examples of this in the sport.

This sport is messed up. I wish they would introduce same day weigh ins. It prevents guys from being 15lbs heavier than their opponents except the HWs of course.

One of these days someone is gunna killed by a fighter who is way bigger on the night and then people will realise this system is unfair to the people who do not have that ability to shrink into smaller weight divisions.

This is what I've been saying, whole division is on weight watchers.

I'm guessing the top 4 or 5 guys you listed are cutting 20 pounds, 'cause those are light heavyweight measurements. Lara and Trout are the only ones normal sized for that division.

What? You don't know a lot of 5 foot 11 guys who weigh 135 pounds in regular life? It's not that bad, like, he's only got 4 inches of height and 8 inches of reach on Mikey Garcia. That sounds like a fair fight to me. They should definitely be fighting in the same weight class.

As I'm frequently told, people who harp on height and reach know nothing about body types since Mike Tyson and David Tua were only 5 foot 10.

Yeah I've said for a while that the division is pretty weird because of the size of each man. Most SWW/JMW are actually a little bigger than most of the middleweights I've noticed.

We just have internet forums used on a mass level, social media, and a couple of the most popular fighters of the last two decades (Floyd, Manny) were two of the extreme minority that didn't tack on 20+ pounds within days after fight night.

Not defending it at all. But it has always happened.

Manny Steward had a few fighters who could do this; Gman could...J Jackson last loss to him post fight said "he's a really REALLY big MW."
Michael Moorer @ LHW, then next day, was about a CruIser. That's why he was able to bypass that division & turn HW without a problem.

Looking at Gannicus post seems it is a lot more prevalent.

More relevant now than last year, even.

Funny because Austin Trout is miles bigger than all of them, and he looks like a child compared to Jarrett Hurd.

Austin Trout is lean and cut like diamond at 175lb and Kell Brook looks like a fat power lifter at the same weight.

This. Also, looking at Hurd's fights with both Lara and Trout and the way he towered over them I have a hard time believing either one is 5'9". 5'7" is a more believable height for Lara or Trout.

Hurd and some of these other massive weight cutters are clearly using diuretics. Same day weighins would force a lot these guys to move up or be caught dehydrated, since they wouldn't have the 24 hour recovery time for their weight to rebound.

From the Olympic Anti Doping Code:

As a result, a fighter who takes diuretics to make weight might weigh the same as his opponent but have a big - and unfair- size advantage because he has the body and muscle mass of a larger man.

In addition, diuretics often help mask the by-products of other illegal, more serious drugs. So although they cannot be used to directly enhance performance, they can hide the presence of other drugs which do.

The solution isn't same day weigh in, it's weigh in two days in a row. These guys can only cut like that for a couple of hours then they do IV bags, drink liters of water, and binge eat. But there's no way for them to either sustain a massive weight cut for 30 hours or cut 20 pounds rehydrate and then cut 20 pounds again.

No, he was close to 180. He was the largest MW after Chavez Jr.
