    Agree or disagree?

I can't see how he isn't. The beating he took off Holmes was inhuman. He summed it up himself at the end of the bout when asked if would want a rematch 'Yeah, but I doubt Larry's hands could take it.'

Not to mention he also fought Shavers and not once appeared shook.

His only KO loss was from a cut I believe?

    Hard to say...

I would say Chuvalo did for the sheer number of huge punchers he faced without going down.

DeJohn, Williams, Frazier, Foreman, Bonavena, Mathis, Quarry, and Patterson were all guys that could really whack, and all failed to deck Chuvalo.

Chuvalo, McCall and Cobb are pretty much indistinguishable in terms of how rock-hard their chins were.

Yeah I think there is a certain extent of toughess you can reach and it's impossible to rank the fellas at that level. You just CANNOT knock Chuvalo, McCall and Cobb out using fists - it can't happen. I guess it's impossible to rank those kinds of guys.

I saw Cobb get knocked down by journeyman Eddie Gregg in their match. Tex also got knocked out in the first round by tomato can Dee Collier. I haven't seen the fight, but according to various observers, it was a legitimate KO.

McCall and Chuvalo have better claims to the title than Cobb, in my opinion.

I believe around that time Cobb was also partying far harder than he was training and fighting, so it's likely Cobb was far from his usual durable self at the point of the Collier fight.

It's possible that Tex just stayed around after that chin lost it's magical powers. He just hung around too lon. The same might have happened to Chuvalo if he didn't quit when he did. Jake LaMotta finally got put on the deck by Danny Nardico, and that was because he syated after the expiration date on his chin went out. I don't know about McCall, but I'm sure that the law of averages will take it's toll on him too if he stays active too long.

I think Ray Mercer should be added to the list. Granite chin.

I'll dispute it if we're talking pound for pound. Pound for pound I'd rank the following over Cobb or Chuvalo:

    Juan Laporte
    Gerry Penalosa
    Billy Graham
    Carmen Basilio
    Jake Lamotta
    Ben Tackie

I think its too close tocall at heavyweight between Chuvalo, McCall, and Cobb.

George Chuvalo and Battling Nelson are the first two I think of.

    1. Collier, tho no world beater, was no "tomato can"

    2. I too have never seen the fight, but have heard rumours that Tex may have gone into the tank

    3. Mcall the toughest at HW for me

Laporte was floored in one of his last several fights.I think Chuvalo wins out over McCall, and Cobb.
