Both fighters in their primes... who wins?.. Im going to go with the Surgeon on a split decision win as long as he fights in angles and does not engage too much...

This is a very interesting matchup indeed. I can see it going both ways. But, if Randall was duly motivated and at his best, I can see him coming on late just like Vince Phillips and either winning a close decision, or stopping Tszyu late.

    Randall by late rounds stoppage.

His straight right was his best punch and Kostya was susceptible to that punch in the Roger Mayweather and Vince Phillips fights.

Randall is somewhat forgotten because he only had a short window of prime fighting form after the Chavez upset. But at his best, he was better than Kostya and his win over a slightly faded JC Chavez is better than any win Kostya ever had.

Tsyzu didn't win 250+ amateur fights by having little boxing ability... I would say that not only his ability, but his physical talent, was greater than Randall's. I see him chopping down Frankie in workman like fashion, using the great body attack he displayed later in his career.

The Kostya being overrated narrative is so tired and misguided.

    He's overrated, Randall is underrated.

He stood way too straight up and was very open for a straight right. Randall proved he could take a body attack in the two Chavez fights. He shook it off. I think Chavez's pressure was more than what Kostya would apply. Randall would give angles, build a lead, then apply the right handed power late.

Tsyzu KO 5. This fight quickly turns into a slaughter. Randall was talented fighter, but in this fight he is not fighting a worn and faded Chaves, but a skilled straight punching bomber, with boxing skills and an excellent chin.

Tszyu is always one extreme or the other. Some people severely overrated him, others severely underrated him.

Personally, I feel I rate him correctly.

I think in the last thread, I said that Locche and Cervantes beat him. I stand by that. I'd also take prime Chavez, Benitez, Pryor, DLH, and Mel Taylor to beat him.

But in this particular matchup, I think he'd beat Randall. But it's definitely a dangerous fight for Tszyu, as Randall was an excellent technician with real power in his right hand.

But I think Tszyu does enough damage to win a decision or possibly late stoppage.

Please tell me more about Frankie's right hand when Kostya had the greatest right hand of his generation.

And for the all the invectives regarding losing to Phillips, can we talk about Primo Ramos and Karid Rhailou?

I'd have to disagree with that. Much as I hated the man, I'd say that Lennox Lewis had the greatest right hand of Tszyu's generation.

Well, he dropped Chavez with it when Chavez had never been knocked down in his career. He also badly staggered him in the second fight. And Chavez went on to hold the WBC title for a few years after the controversial second Randall fight and he wasn't knocked down again for many years. So, it wasn't like Chavez's chin was gone when Randall knocked him down/staggered him.

Watch Kostya hit a shot Chavez at will in their 2000 fight, six years after the Randall fights, and Chavez doesn't go down or even get badly staggered by any singular fight hand. This alone leads me to believe Randall's right was better than Kostya's.

Kostya for his part was too open for that shot as a faded Roger Mayweather showed in their fight. I think a prime Roger could have dropped him but he was on his last legs when he fought Kostya. Phillip's straight right also found a home repeatedly, and it was this punch that ended the fight.

Randall's right hand was pin point straight and had power behind it. Kostya's right hand against Judah was a great shot. I would say that Chavez had a much better chin than Judah, however.

I agree the Ramos loss was a terrible stain on Randall's record. It took him six years to rebuild his career. But, he came back at 140 lbs and redeemed himself and beat a guy who was undefeated and near the top of the pound for pound rankings. That win over Chavez is a higher caliber win then Kostya ever had in his career.
