156lbs because that's what Hopkins made against De La Hoya and this weight would be more fair to Turpin Who wins this matchup?
WHY? why would that be "more fair" to Turpin... Turpin was a Big Middleweight - a MW cum L-HW in the late 40s & 50s. Hopkins back then would have been fighting as a " L-HW cum HW" just as most of the other in & around 6' foot tall, fighters did then. So if anything, NONE of the two of them would have met at 160, nevermind 154... they could comfortably meet at eitherside of 170 lbs.
I've said this numerous times in the past, these 2 are from seperate weigh in eras, Turpin weighed in the day of the fight, therefore he couldn't cut weight the way modern fighters can whereas if he was fighting in Hopkins era, he could cut weight and he would be fighting at 147lbs or 154lbs, so I said if he fought Hopkins they could make it at 156lbs and that would be more fair to Turpin, they are meeting in the middle fighters today who fight at 147lbs when they are in camp they are like 160lbs sometimes more, then they drastically cut weight the week of the fight and make 147

They Weigh Much, MUCH MORE than 160lbs, Men like Turpin & Hopkins, Try 190lbs plus... they've got 4 months to train down... Today they could meet at 168 - NOTHING LESS back then BHop would be a L-HW pushing for HW... thats just the way it was.
Yes, Hopkins would probably be a heavyweight then maybe a light heavyweight earlier on, Turpin was never 190 whilst in shape, whereas Hopkins was in shape at the late 180s, Turpin could be in shape at late 160s at most, today with weigh ins the day before the fight, he could dehydrate 15lbs like everyone else and weigh 147lbs, Turpin and someone like Spence are the same size, Spence would've been a middleweight in Turpin's era because he wouldn't be able to cut 15lbs to 147, well he could, but the fight would be a few hours later, so he would be ****ed What I'm trying to say is that Turpin would not be a middleweight in today's era, he would be taking advantage of the weight cuts and making 147lbs or 154lbs, Turpin fighting Hopkins at 160lbs is like Spence fighting Hopkins at 160lbs, Hopkins would be coming into the ring at like 175lbs, whereas Turpin would still be 160lbs which he weighed in at and if they fought at 156lbs Hopkins would be coming in at around 167lbs and Turpin would be 160 which he would be cutting down from so it is more fair
Weights aside, and they are excellent points, skill for skill, Hopkins is not going to have a fight here. Randy would tear him in half if he holds his feet. Bernard's going to stick and run and stink the the fight out.
