NOT LIKING THE WARD VS AJ TALKS

When Ward first mentioned this I thought ya ya, ok... this is his competetive juices talking here, kinda fighters ways of flexing their confidence, now lets get back to reality. But now, from Max trying to nudge AJ into the picture in the post fight interview, to Hunter saying its becoming a realistic option, and articles/talk/momentum starting to move in that direction, seems like this talk has gone from Ward showing his confidence and possible desire to fight 'the right guy' at heavyweight (meaning, looking for his 'john ruiz' - a non dangerous, medium sized, non exceptional heavyweight) and its turning into genuinely considering AJ as an opponent.

This isnt a game and those around Ward are being pretty irresponsible with his health. AJ could seriously hurt him (I dont mean coma level injury, though obviously thats a possibility in any fight) but the chances of Ward being seriously put to sleep, or if hes tough and cagey enough to endure multiple brain rattling bombs from AJ, is even worse of a scenario, it has a realistic chance of causing him the type of brain trauma any fighter should be looking to avoid.

Fighting AJ is so far fetched and out of the realm of his dimensions and capabilities, imo, that seriously considering it, as it seems team ward is doing, and the boxing world seems to be encouraging to a degree, is really irresponsible, imo. Nobody that cares about Ward, from his fans to his close team members, should be entertaining the idea of this fight.

Maybe Im overblowing this, maybe Ward gets stopped or the towel thrown in without him taking too much punishment.... but the threat of AJ landing several traumatic bombs on Ward is a very real possibility, and the skull/brain of Ward taking those punches is much different than natural heavies and superheavies taking those punches.

Idk... it just seems completely needless, pointless, and foolish.

Ward Kova 2

The ending of the fight didnt bug me too too much watching it live, because it was so obvious to me that Kovalev was on his way to either getting stopped or to be honest, I could have even seen him quitting soon, just imo. But I didnt watch the replays all that closely after the fight as I was in a hurry to get to sleep (im old lol, and had work at 2am the next morning) but watching the replay on fb, I had to say that wow.... the fight literally got stopped due to Kovas reaction to a blatant foul.

Not only do I think the fight shouldnt have been stopped at that point (they are body punches for goodness sakes, let the fight go further to a natural conclusion instead of polluting the fight with controversy and robbing Kovas chances to either overcome adversity or robbing Ward of a much cleaner win) but not only was it stopped prematurely imo, it was, in fact, not opinion, stopped on Kovas reaction to what was a clear low blow. I really didnt want to let the controversy of this overshadow the fight itself, because really.... if Im being honest, I got what I needed from that fight... to me Ward was and is, clearly the better fighter, and was on his way to winning the fight, and would win damn near 8 out of 10 fights against Kova in my opinion. But still.... at the same time, thats not really acceptable reffing... and I think any non bias fan needs to call him out on that.

The finishing blow landed square on the B of Kovalevs sponsors name on his trunks. There is no questioning or denying that it was a low blow. The ref, called the fight after seeing Kovas reaction to that punch. Kova was stopped due to a low blow. That is unacceptable.

But again, that is seperate to the fight itself as a whole, which I liked and thought Ward bossed. I really look forward to seeing Ward against another top light heavy.... I give him tons of props and respect for doing what fans wish all fighters would do, move up and fight the 'killer' in the division above them. He did that. People dont like his style, and the fights were unfortunately tainted in controversy, but at least, for me, at the end of the two fights I know who the better fighter is, imo.

But I dont see how the NSAC can let that stoppage stand? How are they going to overturn the rigo one to a NC, (because the guy couldnt continue due to a foul) and let Ward keep his KO? (a KO that was prompted from a clear foul)

I just dont get it. If Rigo dominating the dude before the foul isnt going to matter to NSAC, and they are going to make that a NC, then it doesnt matter that Ward was going to win the fight before Kova got TKO'd by the ref, he was TKO'd by a foul.

Before anyone get it twisted, im not necessarily saying the fight should be a NC, Im just asking how can one be overturned and not the other by any person or entity trying to even appear objective.

Lastly, to you true boxing fans without an agenda and just wants whats right, what IS the right course of action there? How can you justify Kova being finished by a foul? Whats his compensation? Is it enough to really 'rob' Ward of his hard earned victory just because the ref screwed up?

haha man I hope you are right. I hope its all talk just designed to get Wards name circulating, or talk that will die down soon enough as clear minds prevail.

Theres no way I see Ward lasting the distance unless AJ carries him (which, I could indeed see AJ doing)

But I suppose IF Ward doesnt get seriously concussed in this fight, KO'd, ect, its a win win. But like I said, if AJ doesnt carry him I just dont see it... Ward has decent defense overall but he has momentary lapses in the ring that usually allows his opponents to land some good punches in spots, and against AJ thats all he will need, and the chances of Ward getting hurt in this outway the money, but obviously just imo.

I guess we will see though. Youre right in that if he does survive and even make a good go of it (I wont even entertain the thought of him winning tho lol) his stock would rise exponentially, hed be making huge money, and he could retire on a huge high note.

Seeing as how I give him about a 5% chance of winning, if that, and his chances of being KO'd is high, imo, I dont personally think its worth it.

 

Just got done rewatching (for probably the 4th time since the fight... kinda weird?) Jacobs vs Pirog....

Pirog was such a damn beast. An insult to the boxing gods that we werent able to truly see his ceiling and tested against elite fighters.

 

I dont get your post Nonito. Maybe you are reading too much into my post.

Pirog was an exceptional looking and dangerous talent, who never got to prove himself against the top of the division. Whether before, or after 33. Its a shame, to me, that boxing never got to see his true level against an elite caliber opponent. Where did I say he was great? Where did I say, or ever have said, that he would actually beat the top guys? Where did I say he had an awesome resume? Im saying he appeared to be a beast (imo) and its a shame boxing wasnt able to actually see what he was truly made of, against a high high level opponent. Whether he would have won or lost, it would have been awesome to see.

I dont see how anything you stated detracts from the 'what if' factor, or detracts from the question mark over him, of seeing him against an elite fighter. I dont see how him being 33 in his last fight (where I think he was fighting with back injuries), makes the 'what could have been', had he gotten the big fights, either before or after 33, ( obviously preferably before) be very very overstated.

Maybe its a personal thing. For you, maybe its meh. For me, seeing a motivated and up for it Pirog against an elite fighter at middleweight would have been awesome and its a shame to me that it didnt get to happen. And I personally do have a huge question mark over what could have been with him. Him vs Martinez, Pavlik, Golovkin, ect, would have been awesome to see. But to each their own I suppose.
