Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida

Very true. Its a hard fight to call. But honestly I think it will go to decision. Machida wont let Randy close the distance. Randy will end up chasing him all over the cage and play Machida's game. Thats my take on this fight.

Randy is a bad style for Machida but at his age, I think his durability has decresed and fast shots that he doesn't see coming won't be good for him but that was the old Machida, not the new Machida who is scared to fight.

This could like Couture vs Chuck 1, 2 or 3.

 

will couture be able to take machida down, im not so sure.

I would like to see machida use those footsweeps to takedown couture, love them footsweeps.

Be interesting to see Machida's style here, he seemed to be uncertain of himself in the Rampage fight, at least for the 1st round and a half. Having said that he holds a significant speed advantage on Randy, isnt too shabby in the clinch and has good TD defence.

Randy will try to drag him into a war of attrition but I dot thin he has the stand up tools to wear Lyoto down significantly Shogun style if Machida regains his confidence in his elusive style. On paper his should be a rerun of the Tito fight, with maybe a late stoppage for Machida

I find the most important thing is to mentally threaten fighters from different aspects rather than make that your strategy. If Couture is wary of being taken down himself then it completely changes his gameplan, more so than Machida looking to work the GnP.

 

Machida has great takedown defence and is a BJJ blackbelt. he is no james toney.
