Randys a standup guy. There really isnt a bad word that can be said about him. Excellent and very insightful interview from a man who is VERY close to the source.I thoroughly agree with Randy when he said that the sport may die.I said from the beginning it was bad for MMA that the UFC bought PRIDE and the WFA because Dana is only interested in making money for himself. How he can treat his main cash cow this way il never know. Now that Randy has come out in the open about this he has ALOT to loose.Expect fighters to start defecting to other orgs pretty soon if the price is right..

The figures he qoutes truly shows how much Dana took the ****. I mean they were going to pay Fedor more in signing bonus than Randy has ever made for a fight?! Even Bodog were going to pay him more.. Goes to show how much Zuffa or rather Dana values there fighters.

I'm not accusing you of anything but I just wanna know, are you implying that Randy's a scumbag because he raised the issue if financial compensation?

I doubt his implying that.Randy`s situation kind of reminds me of when Shawn Kemp was at the sonics and was the marquee and franchise player. But Jim Mcclvaine an utterly useless centre got paid a much higher contract than Kemp despite Kemps status with the sonics and being there franchise.Kemp left and went to the Cavs and 1 season later became a 300lb sack of ****.

Now im not comparing Randy to this but the monetary situation is very similar. Randy is practically/was the face of the UFC.His been with the org from the early days and has been a worthy contender and champion. But yet Dana is low balling him.At the end of the day from a pure ethics basis Randy is wholly correct. If Dana is only interested in making money out of his fighters with no regard for there welfare then the UFC is doomed to die.At the end of the day as a fighter you go to the highest bidder hence why Fedor has signed with the M1.He got what he wanted.

Dana hasnt offered Randy anything and isnt willing to compensate him properly therefore he has lost him as he will do other big fighters. Its only a matter of time.Dana has way too much power and the UFC fighters know this.Competition is ALWAYS good. When a jerkoff like Dana holds all the trump cards thats not a good look at all for MMA.

I just wanted to get a clarification from him in general because I side w/ Randy on this one. People always take issue w/ the athlete for making money an issue when it is he himself that is the compelling part of the equation that generates the dollars. Without him there is no sport or, subsequently, fan interest. I also agree that an A-Rod for example has done his fair share to sour the average fan to a game he once loved w/ the inclusion of private jets and the like into his contract. That is overboard and the line has to be drawn somewhere but Randy Couture is nowhere in that neighborhood.

Dana's total payroll for the last UFC event was $652,000 and that's for every single fighter that competed. Now if they're only getting that, then how much is Dana getting? . . . when it's the fighters' blood, sweat, and tears that make the product and they ought to be compensated accordingly. Nobody ever takes issue w/ the OWNERS' GREED because their salaries aren't printed in the paper for us to scrutinize. If nobody takes a stand the athlete ends up royally screwed and we can plainly see Dana's a dick who doesn't give a **** about any of them. So I'm a 100% advocate of them getting what they can while they can. Too many settle for less just to be in the national spotlight.

A similar thing happened with Bret Hart and Vince McMahaon when Eric Bischoff of WCW offered him a salary that trounced the peanuts that the WWF was paying him. Your ultimate loyalty lies with you and your family, especially regarding business because there are no friends in business and at the end of the day when you're expecting your blood, sweat, tears and loyalty to be rewarded you'll get hit with, "I'm sorry, this is business, nothing personal." Randy didn't take that 3 mil to go to Bodog and now look where he is, resigning as an insulted fighter and inactive for at least nine months. And that's just not how it's supposed to be. MMA fighters need a union, man. Along with strippers, wrestlers, and just about any sect of people who don't have one.
