Does anyone else find it interesting that he was lifting weights and riding an elliptical?

the first highlight of yours ive watched that i enjoy. ive no right to criticize but i feel your choice in music is usually poor and your videos often have lots of footage in them unrelated to boxing. im sure other boxers have sought and found various ways to increase their strength, lifting weights being one of them. also the stationary bike is just a bike, an elliptical is one of those standing rowing machines.

    Yes. Very.

What are the details behind that clip, and how much do we know about Turpin's weight training?

Bike and ellipticals were invented in 2018. And he couldn't possibly have known about the punch known as "the jab".

Turpin had the upper body of a heavyweight. He looked like he probably lifted. It's his quickness that was surprising. Fast hands

I've honestly never watched Turpin befor but strictly going off the highlights he reminds me of Emanuel Agustus abit without the excessive antics strictly from a fighting point of view

Elliliptical doesn't surprise me as much, I remember seeing stuff like Harry Wills use a funny rowing machine, maybe not specifically an elliptical, but I've seen quite a few train on various machines, past and present, IIRC Bob Fitzsimmons used to include cycling in his training, makes a lot of sense to include some low impact conditioning work.

The weights did surprise me more. Especially back then he must have been really going against the grain, unless I'm wrong and it was popular at some point in boxing training or something.

Turpin had a relatively short prime.
He probably went into decline after the 2nd Robinson fight.
By the time he went back to the States a couple of years later to fight Olsen for the title, out of the ring issues and not training fully meant he simply wasn’t the same fighter who fought Sugar Ray.
It was all downhill from there, a tragic story.
