The man who handed Robinson his second loss versus one of the greatest amateur boxers of all time. 15 rounds at middleweight.
Difficult to say given Papp's less than extensive professional career. A great amateur doesn't necessarily mean a great pro, Mark Breland showed that. Given that Papp had a couple of unimpressive draws and didn't really achieve anything, I'll take Turpin by decision. He's a good boxer-puncher, and although Robinson was under-prepared it still takes a lot to beat him. Turpin was also a lot bigger than Papp, he fought at light-heavy aswell and had 5 inches on him. He also had a good fight with Bobo Olson which shows that his win over Robinson wasn't just a pure fluke. I take Turpin by decision, though close.
I would make Randy the favourite due to his superior boxing ability and good legs, but I would not be surprised in the least if he got flattened by one of Papp`s straight lefts or vicious right hooks at some point. Papp was the better puncher and had the better chin, but he wasn`t the most active of fighters in terms of punch output and this might allow Randy to outwork him. If Turpin keeps the fight at his range he likely wins a decision, but if Laci gets inside on him or lands enough of that heavy artillery of his he would probably take him out sometime past the halfway point. So with all that said my vote goes to Papp, but I wouldn`t wager on it.
Papp is in control throughout the early rounds. As the late round turn. There is nothing like experience and Turpin begins to turn the tide. Randy by a close Majority Decision Win.
