I think with Turpin Ted his real prime was relatively short. Apparantly he went into decline due to out of the ring factors almost immediately after the 2nd Robinson fight. By the time he went back to the States a couple of years later to fight Olsen he was a pale shadow of the fighter who fought Robinson.
Thanks Vinegar Hill. This explains it somewhat, seen this kind of thing before with other boxers.Always wondered how he put in 2 great showings against Robinson and then lost to what must have been a lesser, though still good, boxer in Olson.
Besides the size and power Turpin had real good speed. It may be a series of fights with Turpin possibly winning the first bout based on his awkward, uncommon style. I could also see Hagler ad******g and winning the series.
both of turpins losses before robinson and his olson setback can be put down to his head not being in the right place because of women.the young man just couldn't separate his emotional side from his training for important fights and has been said his peak time was very short. at his peak and before with no emotional problems he was known as the most diligent of trainers.just like conteh at his best he was ruthless with his sparring partners and wouldn't pull his punches
