Dempsey`s left hook was one of the greatest hooks in history, the effect and speed and the short distance it travelled may have had a more explosive effect than Wilder`s hook, I don`t think Wilder has KO`d anyone with a good chin with a hook, but Wilder`s power punch is his right hand mainly, Dempsey`s hook was amazing but I don`t know about it being a one punch finisher.

Wilder only weighed 214lbs in the Ortiz fight though, Ali weighed 214lbs in the Cooper rematch that`s not heavy at all, Marciano`s legs were thicker than Wilder`s power can often come from your legs, look at Naseem`s legs when he was feather champ, they were huge and he was devastating, ironically I`ve heard Wilder compared to Naz because of there strange angles and habit of leaning away from punches, plus both fall/fell of balance because of the power they threw with and over committing to their punches.

Wilder only weighed 214lbs the modern heavyweight punch is a myth! AJ does not punch harder than Shavers, Wlad may provide an argument but that`s it what modern heavyweights are you talking about?

Yes, Wilder isn't a "modern superheavyweight".
I'm not sure what the exact criteria for a modern superheavyweight is, but people on these forums have been saying for years that they are just way too strong and too powerful.
Wilder simply doesn't have the frame, the muscle mass or the body weight to quality.
Modern super-heavyweights are 240 pounds or so, and carry significant muscle mass.

Wilder is an old school type of build, he'd probably get eaten alive by any modern super-heavyweight. For example, Golota (often cited as a modern superheavyweight). This is what I've read on these forums. The Goloa-type is almost a different weigh class to the Wilder type.
Wilder struggles to hold more than 225 on his frame effectively and you can see he's just not big in frame or in muscle mass.
His punches would just bounce off a good modern superheavyweight.

Likewise with Marciano, Dempsey and Langford. Yes, they hit hard for their size but they are just too small, same as Wilder.

I guess they all punch equally hard roughly, but they can't rank with the likes of Wlad, Bowe, Lewis, Golota or Rahman or "Big Baby Milller".

Marciano loads behind his ass. From purely a technical standpoint he should hit harder. Not enough ass in the other fellas shots.

Size only matter when all else is equal. Why do you lot pretend all else is equal? Wilder does not load from behind his ass, size negated.

    Power comes from three things:
Weight of the projectile, speed of the projectile, and support behind the impact.

Most heavies are roughly equal in the first.
Wilder is a bit lacking in the third. (Wlad had great support.)

    - But Wilder has significantly faster hands than any other top 20 HW today, and that's where a lot of his power comes from.

He might also have naturally heavy hands / bones. (se factor #1)

I assume you meant to list Wilder as #1?

I have Wilder by a comfortable margin #1 in an absolute sense, but pound for pound
I have Langford similarly a clear #1. After Langford though, Marciano and Wilder are close.

    1) Wilder
    2) Marciano
    3) Dempsey
    4) Langford

    Pound for pound

    1) Langford
    2) Marciano
    3) Wilder
    4) Dempsey

The testimonies in favour of Langford's power are absolutely absurd. I've never read anything like it, ever. That said, you see now, you don't read, so who knows, Wilder could hit harder.

My guess is that it just doesn't matter. You probably can't hit meaningfully harder than these two men. It's like comparing nuclear bombs right before they land on your house. Matters **** all. You're about to get hit by two nuclear bombs is the salient point.

    IMO:

    1. Marciano
    2. Wilder
    3. Dempsey
    4. Langford

The amount of people putting Marciano below Dempsey and Langford worries me. Especially Dempsey, who's been quoted as saying Marciano hit harder in one punch

If you were to ask me who's the best puncher of them, I'd say Dempsey at heavyweight and Langford p4p
