Rank Fury and AJ in HW ATG sense

AJ fans are deluded and never stop talking about Fury because Fury beat legit reigning champs and has an ATG trilogy and is just sexy

 

Remember 2 years ago when people were ranking Fury above Joe Louis?
Most of us knew the truth would come out in time!

 

Wasn't that long ago that "respected " boxing pundits were saying Wilder had the most powerful right hand in boxing history.

 

Pundits have to sell fights!

 

Wilder had the most explosive right hand in HW history without a doubt, "powerfull" depends how you define it.

God it's a shame we didn't get AJ Wilder in 17/18.

 

Against fat guys and bar fighters, sure.

 

Well yeah mostly potatoes which is a shame but he has enough names there that arn't pushovers

The only outlier for him was when he struggled to get Duhapaus out of there but I think he broke his hand early in that bout and he's fairly tough anyway

I mean, Pulev was a mere 39 years old and 7 months when AJ fought him, Robert Helenius was also 39 years and 7 months old, and Povetkin was a spry young 39 year old when they met in the ring. . .give me a break. AJ fought shot, over the hill fighters again, and again, and then took on obese Ruiz and a puffed up cruiserweight named Usyk and Dubois, a deeply flawed fighter with serious Daddy issues. . .and he still lost repeatedly. Well, now he has another tough, top-notch opponent, with a great record of fighting the best coming up on 12/19. . .SMH. . .Jake Paul. . .words fail me.

They are both around Top 25-30. Not much seperating him, but Fury is a bit higher historically.

 

Same.

Joshua's probably around 30-35, Fury around 40-50.

Both have black marks and asterisks, but Fury's are worse (incl. PED abuse) and his resume is a fair bit thinner.

There's more "what if" around Fury, but his mentality is probably the defining factor as to "why not" (whilst also probably part of the mixture that enabled him to be what he actually was).

The main reason Fury gets rated higher a lot is he generally gets the benefit of the doubt over almost every time, whilst Joshua rarely does... That and Fury gets rated as an impossible chimera of his two incompatible styles, with all the strengths and none of the flaws.

 

I think I probably count Fury's duck more strongly than you do - as well as the fact he was caught with PEDs too.

And Wilder was always a myth - Povetkin was a far better win than Wilder... Ironically, Fury's poor performances in 1&3 (whilst still clearly winning) make Wilder look more competitive at the top than he'd ever have been - I strongly suspect the deer in headlights performance in 2 is more like how he'd have looked against Joshua, Povetkin, and even Whyte at the time he was hiding from tough fights.

 

It's like asking where Bruce Seldon and Herbie Hide rank in HW ATG sense.
