The 70's are tops. Problem with the 40's is WW2 took a lot of fighters into the military along with Joe Louis, so the classic potential fights didn't occur.

You can't argue with the quality and the world wide high profile of HW boxing in the 70s but 80s will always be my favourite.

Three ATGs in their primes in Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. Two emerging young talents that would dominate headlines in coming years in Lennox Lewis and Ruddock Bowe. The first LHW to win a HW title in living memory in Michael Spinks, The first African fighter to win a version of the HW title in Gerrie Cortzee (also the 1st white HW titlist for almost 25 years). A couple of superfight events that captivated worldwide attention at the time in Holmes/Cooney and Tyson/Spinks.Throw in a solid, talented (though admittedly underachieving and uninspired) supporting cast with the likes of Tim Witherspoon, Michael Dokes, Pinklon Thomas, Greg Page, Tony Tucker and I think it was overall a pretty good decade.

But the clincher for the decade has to be the first appearance and introduction of two of the hardest hitting and famous heavyweights ever ........

    Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago!!
