Well technical skill is not limited to spacing, counterpunching, timing, etc. It could also be applicable to arsenal, force application (power, in varying amounts) cadence (varying speeds, rhythms), etc. It's not always about having blinding speed, to be able to be multifaceted and using ALL ranges in your repertoire is in itself, skill.

Tucking your chin in is also a skill (albeit basic)

The poll results have formed a typical bell curve.

The poll was started by a typical bell end.

Solid 8......But as everyone knows.....PAC's done come a long way. He's a very polished and intelligent fighter with immense physical tools that he utilizes extremely well.

Floyd's not a perfect fighter but he's technically flawless with what he does. That doesn't mean he can't be beat. It just means he's very sharp, crisp and has impecible technique. Which is one of the top categories that a boxer would want to place high in.

...You're seriously comparing Marg's defence (or rather, lack of defence) to Pac's? Good Lord.

But you said he doesn't go to the body...and Clottey isn't the only example, either. I also mentioned Morales, and JMP listed various other moments.

I agree that there are issues that Pac needs to address, and his athleticism lets him get away with unorthodox tactics. Pac DOES often jump in with a jab, though...in fact, the 1-2 combination was the only thing he used to do back in the day. It's not a great jab, true, and it's more of a distraction than a solid shot, but it at least serves to set-up his straight left, so it's certainly doing something for him. You can actually watch Pac using the 1-2 to repeatedly floor Marquez in their first meeting.

Who said he was a technician? I'm confused.

Having some decent technical skills doesn't make you a technician. A technician, at least as far as I see it, is someone who prizes technique and skill as the heart of their style. Pac is more of a super quick, aggressive boxer-puncher. That doesn't mean he doesn't have at least moderate technical ability.

    I'll say 7.

Defense has improved alot, yet he's still very hittable
    Mediocre jab
Can't cut off the ring when needed
Ability to fight off the backfoot is ok
There are times when he looks completely lost in the ring when faced with opponents that utilize alot of movement.

Mayweather's last 3 opponents (including Ortiz)

    Ortiz - sitting duck
    Mosley - past it
    JMM - catchweight

do we discredit Floyd's skill as well?

Better than Floyd offensively , not as good defensively a total 50/50 fight if Floyd ever decides to take the fight.

In my opinion it has to be a 10 if Floyd is the benchmark.

Pac is an 8, while Floyd is a 9. He has however achieved more than Floyd, which proves that technical skills alone do not make one great.

Pacquiao is an 8. You could maybe argue a 7. No more, no less, though.

9- his skills are exemplary, but it's not textbook ala Jmm. One of the most effective unorthodox styles in boxing.
