no jab comes in off balanced wide open can't cut off the ring doesn't go to the body doesn't apply educated pressure suspect defense not a good inside fighter can't fight backing up

If he was 'wide open' he would have been knocked out by now. His defence is better than that.

He DOES go to the body...remember his matches against Morales? Or the more recent one against Clottey, where he was even using bodyshot combinations?

His pressure isn't bad either. If you want to see uneducated pressure, look at Hatton -- head first, lunges in, gets countered constantly. Pac has leaky defence, but he's become more of a boxer-puncher in recent years, and his head movement and guard aren't that bad.

As for fighting while going backwards, I've seen him do this effectively against both Margarito and Hatton. He's not the best at it, but he's not bad either.

The rest of your points are better and I agree with some of them. On the whole, though, I think you Floyd fans should give more credit to Pac where it's due -- exaggerating about his faults seems a bit unfair. I'm a big Floyd fan, and I prefer defensive, slick fighters, and even I can genuinely appreciate what Pac does in the ring.

I'd say no less than 7. I'd give him bout an 8

You could argue Hagler but I'd put him above Winky. Winky's style was limiting.

Absolutely. Describing Pacquiao's attack as wide open is a gross exaggeration. And people saying Pacquiao doesn't go to the body clearly haven't been paying attention/have been seeing what they want to see. Rewatch the first Barrera fight and the Morales fights. He hurt Margarito to the body, landed a nice right hook to the ribcage of Hatton just before the KO, punished Clottey downstairs all night long, and briefly doubled over both De La Hoya and Cotto with straight left hands to the stomach. I recall him also hurting Cotto with a right hook to Cotto's left side in the 9th round at the end of a combination when he had Cotto on the ropes. He's not a great bodypuncher by any means, but he has done a decent job of going to the body in many of his fights.

...anyways, solid post. Some of Pacquiao's biggest fans overrate his skillset and a lot of Pacquiao's biggest detractors/Mayweather's biggest fans underrate his skillset. If he's as wide open and technically inept as they say he is, then there is no reason for them to call a potential Mayweather win over him a great one that skyrockets Floyd up the ATG ladder.

Did I stutter. He didn't start pressuing Mosely till mosely was tired. He wasn't going to risk pressuring him till there was no risk. The only time he applied pressure when it was a risk he got dropped.

Being wide open doesn't mean you would get knocked out by now. Margo is wide open and he gets hit all the time and comes back for more, Pac like Margo has a good chin.

As far as bodywork who wouldn't go to the body with a guy that has a high guard and doesn't protect his body like Clottey who looked like a heavy bag in that fight. His body was wide open for the taking and he still landed at a **** %.

When I say educated pressure I mean pressuring from behind a jab cutting the ring off and get good accurate shots off. Pac jumps in without a jab and doesn't pick his punches he's a head hunter who often at times is wild but it's okay because he can get away with it.

Lastly Pac and technican shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence with that said he is very effective at what he does and it works but he's not a technican and has a lot of flaws offensively and defensively. When I think of technican I think of guys like JMM or Winky Wright not Pac.

I think these guys are doing this a lot in this thread.
It's the same thing with Roy Jones. I bet they wouldn't say Roy is technically superior now, but in his prime he was.
When really, he never was the technically good. He's not awful though
I feel the same way with Pac
