ok he was past it but he was still a dangerous fighter in the 90s and proved this winning a world title after the Douglas defeat. sure he wasnt as formiddable bu he was still a live opponent.

im pretty sure the grill came out after he retired for the second time. also he was still a dangerous opponent but when he stepped up he was beaten. He beat one of the poorer champions in a night where he ofugth tacitacally brillaintly to win it.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl

I think Lennox Lewis is the only truly elite level fighter on the list.

Hamed fought an elite in Bererra and lost and then retired.

Hatton fought a fading elite in Tszyu and got a great win but went on to be totally outclassed by two prime elites in Mayweather and Pacquiao.

The only elite fighter Calzaghe faced was 43 and he struggled.

Honeyghan and McGuigan both had great wins against Curry and Pedroza but never really maintained that level.

Eubank was good but happy just defending his WBO strap.

I think Nigel Benn's win over McCallen was good but don't forget that McCellan was about 38 and it turned out to be his last fight.

Bruno was OK but his popularity far exceeded his ability.

Haye is still at an early stage in his career but already has an impressive resume at cruiser and beating Klitschko would put right up there with the best.

Hamed he did lose to an elite in Barrera but he did beat alot of good fighters and held a linearship in 2 weights does that not make him elite.

It depends what you count as elite, I think it's rather subjective. I think there is a distinction between World Class and then being elite, for example Ricky Hatton is a world class fighter, but not an elite like Mayweather. For me an elite is the best of World class, a fighter who you put head to head against anyone in the history of boxing at their weight and expect them to do well. I'm not sure if Hamed was elite, but I guess he was very close to it.

Ok got you it is subjective.

Naz is very highly regarded in a H2H scenario as he was unorthodox and powerful (i feel his style held him back but that is a different matter)

does that not make him elite?

Probably to be honest, I think it's just the Barrera fight and the way he retired after losing, it still leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth and maybe clouds my judgment as it was a shame he went out like that.

I would still put Hamed above Calzaghe though.

    Lewis
    Calzaghe
    Hamed
    Benn
    Eubank
    Honeyghan
    McGuigan
    Hatton
    Haye
    Bruno

John Conteh I think is the most naturally gifted boxer we've produced in the post war period. I would've put him after Lewis.
