**** the so called fab four, its 2013...time to get off the dicks of these guys from the 80's...damn sick of hearing about the same four dudes who continuously lost to one another as well as other fighters...I've seen everyone of these guys fight and they are no where near light years above other top fighters today...
I don't see how Duran gets ranked #1 in a lot of people's lists. Bias I guess. SRL 3-1-1 Hagler 2-1 Hearns 1-2-1 Duran 1-3 I know he started at a lower weight than the others, but he's the only one to (a) quit, and (b) get put fast asleep. Hearns lost by 2 KO's but he wasn't put to sleep and dominated the way Duran was. Duran gets severely overrated and gets a free pass for being a quitter and an excuse-maker after his losses.
This is why I rate SRL the highest of the 4.. He is the only one with wins over all of them. Duran I actually rate second.. As he holds the best single victory and was the smaller man of the 4.
Duran's lengthy reign at the lightweight division combined with him climbing up weight classes and winning titles in a very long and illustrious career makes him the best of the bunch. SRL probably would've been the top out of the 8 had he not dealt with injuries/multiple retirements. Out of the recent 4, Pacman has the best resume of the bunch while JMM has climbed over his mexican rivals MAB and Morales with his success the past 10 years in boxing, especially how well he's fought Pacquiao who gave both MAB and Morales problems.
i think duran its way way way overrated!! his biggest win was againts leonard......and after that he ****ing quit and didint won a big fight. estaban de jesus owned his ass at 135 when he was at his best...and esteban was a ****ing heroin addict....benitez owned his ass....hearns killed him...hagler outclass him.
^^Sorry, but anyone who actually watched Duran fight wouldn't share that sentiment. Just like FLoyd Mayweather, Duran is not a natural Welterweight in comparison to Ray Leonard, Hearns, or a MW in Hagler. Duran's best years were in the 70's, by the time the 80's rolled around Duran was already past his prime a bit. That's what makes his victory over Ray leonard in MOntreal so special and he capped off the decade in the 80's by beating a prime Iran Barkley at MW. On a side note, there's no shame getting KO'd by Hearns at WW. ALmost everyone Tommy fought at 147 ended up on the canvas. Comparing Duran to the new "4", I'd favor him in every single one of those bouts against the mexicans and Pacman at lightweight. In fact I see him knocking out the majority of the new 4 in a violent fashion if we're talking about mid 70's Roberto.
Leonard Duran Hagler (Top Three are SO close) Pacquiao (struggled with JMM, but still better chance with others listed) Hearns Marquez Morales Barrera
