Rank the following fighters from greatest to least greatest. Reasoning would be appreciated. Who beat the most impressive level of opposition? Who was the most complete fighter at their best? Discuss. Michael Spinks Julio Cesar Chavez Eder Jofre Alexis Arguello Roy Jones Jr Thomas Hearns Carmen Basilio Larry Holmes
:yep Hamed would have certainly whipped them all, but let's get serious, rank these bums from best bum to worst bum. Let's do that, Lora. :good
Don't want to under appreciate someone I don't know much about but I don't know a great deal on Eder Jofre so not really sure on him but my pick for the greatest P4P of that bunch would be Roy Jones maybe followed by JC CHavez, then Basilio and Arguello, then Hearns, then Holmes - sorry to Holmes fans - I just don't rank to many of the heavyweights too highly in a P4P sense in comparison with the great guys from lower weights - and I don't consider Holmes to have been one of the mount olympus heavyweights either
1) Roy Jones Jr 2) Thomas Hearns 3) Julio Cesar Chavez 4) Michael Spinks 5)Alexis Arguello 6)Larry Holmes 7)Eder Jofre 8)Carmen Basilio Jones Jr was the most complete fighter. Chavez was the most proven. Hearns fought the best competition
I like what you've done here Addie, you've gave us a **** of a thread/task. And it's going to be a long thread when people clash i think! To be objective i'll try and sort it out resume-wise.
Indeed. I purposefully wanted to match-up 8 fighters who I felt were all fairly comparable in terms of greatness.
Roy Jones Jr Thomas Hearns JCC Alexis Arguello Larry Holmes Michael Spinks Carmen Basilio Eder Jofre (don't know much about him)
Thomas Hearns Roy Jones Jr Larry Holmes Carmen Basilio Eder Jofre Julio Cesar Chavez Alexis Arguello Michael Spinks I think. I'm not really sure.
It's a situation wherein you have fighters with good wins but without a very stacked resume, you have fighters with a stacked resume and not too many bona fide great wins, and you have fighters with great resumes and considerable losses on the ledger. It just depends how you weight the average. Probably- Jones Hearns Basilio Jofre Spinks Arguello Chavez Holmes It could be any other way though and i won't contest it, i just put myself out there as i've already posted and said i'd try. My opinion of the fighters (simply as fighters) is probably- Jofre/Jones/Holmes/Spinks Arguello/Basilio/Chavez/Hearns The top line i think slightly more of, probably Jofre being the man, ironic with the lack of his successful effors i've viewed i know.
My stab would maybe be like.... Michael Spinks Thomas Hearns Carmen Basilio Roy Jones Jr Alexis Arguello Eder Jofre Julio Cesar Chavez Larry Holmes I tend to be one of the few who rank Spinks over Jones. I just felt he dominated a far, far greater Light Heavyweight division, and he beat a far, far greater Heavyweight in Larry Holmes.
