But you acknowledge his LHW competition was infinitely better than Jones'? But you acknowledge that the version of Holmes defeated by Spinks was an infinitely better fighter than Ruiz?
PP, when you say if Basilio was 'really' great, do you mean really as in 'actually', or as in 'a lot'? Because there's no denying he was great is there? Let's be honest.
i don't mind the debate of how great he really was, but debating whether he was great at all i think is a bit silly. You can see it by watching him in form imo,
You're debating with a man who described Eder Jofre as "a ****ing midget". Just approach his reply with caution, that's all I'm saying.
Jones overall competition or his LHW competition? Jones LHW comp is underrated, Tarver very good 6'3 southpaw with fast hands and power, Spinks only has Qawi who's better. Gonzalez/Woods/Reggie Johnson/Virgil Hill/McCallum all world champions future/present/past. They were all completely dominated them hardly losing a round hence people assume they were ****, they weren't. Then there's Harding who beat Tarver and Hall who was up against Darius when he was stopped against his wishes So thats just LHW, from a man who fought as 147lb in the amateurs, started his pro career at 154 and has a great career prior to fighting at 175 Spinks doesn't have a win on par with Toney/Hopkins. Holmes is better than Ruiz but Spinks arguably lost both of those fights and at least 1. Jones dominated Ruiz
Oh god, he is debating it. Larry Holmes clearly lost the first fight. I haven't seen anyone dispute the decision, but for those who do, may they post their scorecards. I rank Michael Spinks win over Holmes higher than Jones beating a green Hopkins.
Depends on your definition of great doesn't it? I don't think he's any more great than Tarver or Norris in their respective beating up on old greats. HE beat a 38yo Robinson a while before he lost to Pender, do you consider Pender to be great? Basilo beat a shell of Robinson and then lost to that same shell
Yes and you can't debate because your as thick as pig **** repressed homosexual virgin As for Larry Holmes, yes I thought it was 1-1, the first is a qualty win imo, Williams rightfully beat a younger Holmes though, how do you rate him if you are in anyway consistant?
Yeah, and he wasn't at his best weight either, he was moving up in weight to fight the middleweight champion of the world, who was still world class at the very least at that point in his career. Like i said, if you're debating how great he was, and saying you don't think he's as great as said to be, i have no issue with that. But if we're trying to say he's not great at all, then yes i disagree. Plenty of fighters are seen as great who don't have a top tier win on their ledger, but have good ones that add up. If you use that rule for others then it must be applied to Basilio as well. Definitely a great fighter for me, i don't see the issue.
Anyone can debate. It's about knowing how to talk up opposition, like Antonio Tarver, who achieved very little as a Light Heavyweight outside of stopping a weathered Roy Jones Jr. His performance in getting thoroughly outclassed by Bernard Hopkins was certainly memorable, though. Williams did not beat Holmes, and even if he did, how would that be comparable with a Light Heavyweight moving up and dethroning the Heavyweight champion in his very first fight at that weight? Holmes did indeed go into the first fight undefeated, chasing an all time record, and he was clearly defeated by the heavy underdog. It's inconceivable in my mind how anyone could have scored this fight in favor of the champion, but you've claimed some have, so now is the perfect time to start naming names. Truth be told, I'm always wary of debating with you, Power Puncher. Not because you have infinite knowledge, but because you're by far the most stubborn poster on these boards. You couldn't even bring yourself to admit that Michael Spinks did indeed beat better Light Heavyweights than Jones did, despite this being conventional wisdom.
Yeah, there should be limits to how you can joke about Winona. Sure, Lindsay Lohan - but miss Ryder is pure human nobility. Probably not the right place to admit this, but I just saw her in "The strange lives of Pippa Lee" and she delivered, as usual.
:good She's been receiving rave reviews for her part in Black Swan, and has recently been signed up for Tim Burton's next project. The comeback is on.
