Deepest division in world MMA , hot topic for debate Explain where you think you need too in terms of who ranks where and why :good
Easy, lightweight is deeper though. Anyway Jones Evans Hendo Shogun Machida Rampage King Mo Mousasi Forrest Gustaffson
Deeper in terms of cloned fighters yes , i.e. you get 7 or 8 fighters with identical skill sets fighting each other a lot At 205 you have a whole top 10 (more or less) with clinical mma qualities , who can and often do , finish fights with a more lethal tendancy than any other weight class That for me makes it deeper than any division in world mma
There's just as varied a range of styles at I55Ibs than at 205Ibs. Loved to know who these clone fighters are as well.
Yes a man who struggle to cope with the fearsome wrestling of Keith Jardine is going to THRIVE against the likes of Evans, Davis and Jones.
I'm not saying he is gonna thrive, but at least he will have better opposition....and if he can work on his wrestling he could be a real force a LHW
The majority of the top tier @55 are wrestler based fighters , therefore the core of the upper echelon have very similar styles , and you get Edgar vs Maynard style trilogies , Henderson , Miller , Guida , Sherk , Edgar & Maynard all have very similar attributes but slightly different styles , then you have an under belly of 55'ers who are varied but will never wear UFC gold because ultimately they cannot wrestle , this brings depth to the division but the plethora of quility suffers because a lack of a wrestling base , so the division has quantity , but not individualistic quality rarely seen in MMA such as 205 The 205 lb division is made up of varied styles right across the top 10 but all equally as dangerous in finishing fights , Jones , Shogun , Rashad , Henderson , Machida , Rampage , Thiago Silva , Griffin , Franklin etc etc to name a few make up the majority of the top 10 , in the current 205 lb division there is a handfull of fighters who will be rembembered fondly in MMA history and will rightly hold there place in the HOF , when comparing individuals in the weight divisions , well .................. they dont really compare do they , and there's a reason for that You can disect the divisions and say yes , @55 we have 25 guys who can all beat each other , but @205 you have 8 - 10 guys with devestating skill sets , who all have held titles , and who may well hold title's again
I'm sorry this is nonsense. First of just because someone has wrestling within their skillset does not mean they fight exactly the same. Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard have very different styles even if the base is wrestling. Edgar uses it to keep the fight standing and counter-punch whereas Maynard is more aggressive fighter with both his wrestling and striking. Diaz and Miller are probably fighting for the next title shot and neither is a great wrestler. Both are fantastic grapplers though and in Diaz they have a really interesting boxer. You also have Cerrone who leads with his Muay Thai and Guillard who has explosive kickboxing. Then you have excellent technical strikers like Pettis and Barboza plus more grapplers like Dunham and Lauzon. You dismiss all the non-wrestlers in the division because 'they're never going to be champion' but then list 205Ibers like Thiago Silva who have never been in title contention and the likes of Jackson, Griffin, Machida and Franklin who's title contender days are probably over. I get you like the 205Ibs division the best because you like the fighters but that does not make it deeper or more varied. I like the middleweight division the best because I have strong opinions of so many of the fighters (and because I consider it the most varied) but that doesn't make it the deepest.
He's got a good chance, Hendo cant do 5 rounds and Machida isnt the fighter he once was. They both got a chance of getting the kod, but atm Evans is on a better run at LHW
Jones Shogun Evans Machida Rampage Henderson Davis Gustaffson Lawal Griffin Honourable mentions to Lil Nog , Thaigo Silva (inactivity denies him a top 10 spot) & Rich Franklin Clearly Jon Jones is the division stand out fighter , enough said , Shogun , Rashad , Machida , Rampage and Henderson are all interchangable positions depending on how you break down there skills and there fights , or how you interpretate momentum , the one man with the most momentum aside from Jones in this division is Rashad Evans , that cannot be taken away , that said , for me he hasnt fought any of the divisions elite (barring an out of shape Rampage) so ranking him inside the top 5 is debatable in itself , Shogun has beat Machida , Machida beat Evans , Rampage beat Henderson & Machida , Shogun lost to Henderson etc etc etc , plenty of room for debate there Gustaffson and Davis get high rankings for me based on how i see there progression and skills , they will forge part of the future of this division and IMO will be box office draws in the next 2 - 3 years Lawal undoubtedly has the potential to be relevant in the UFC's 205 division but needs a more rounded game , but id like to see him make the switch now just as a lot of the top 10 fighters are closing in on the end of there days at the top
Dude your reading blind again " Edgar & Maynard have very similar attributes but slightly different styles " , where did i say they fight " exactly the same " ??? :huh So now we are comparing the Maynard , Miller , Diaz , Guillard , and Cerrone's of the world To the Rampage , Shogun , Machida , Evans & Henderson's of the world Dude seriously , Rampage , Griffin , Machida and Franklin (dominant champion @185) have all been there and done it , Machida's last loss was in a title fight ??? , Rampage too ??? , these LW's you name havent even reached the status of nearly men ................ honestly pal , your digging a hole here !!!! Buddy the divisions dont compare , of course the 55lb division is going to be competetive , there average sized athletes , @205 you have a collaberation of outstanding legends capable of and have been at the top of the tree for several reasons , in multiple organistations with numerous stoppage wins under there belt against the worlds elite @55 you have wrestlers dominating the state of play , just who in the under belly of the 55lb division ranks P4P top 15 - 20 ??? , i would suggest 2 or max 3 and one of them is in SF , if you add Aldo and Gil Melendez to that division it adds another dimension but for now its wrestler dominated , and 205 isnt , its dominated by animals who have and will continue to light up the world of MMA with varied and outstanding skill sets which the other divisions dont posess :deal :yep
