1.) Sergio Martinez. No questions asked best MW in the world right now. Very unorthodox style. VERY fast feet. . . Fast hands. Good power in both hands. He really doesn't have a good defense, but his feet are so damn quick, he can skeet away from danger. . . But watch, he can't really catch shots with his gloves, elbows, or forearms like you would think a guy with his speed could. Basically NO GUARD. . . 2.) Pirog. I know a lot of people say Jacobs was untested, and unproven, but he was (is, if he recovers and comes back) a VERY good talent. . . He was expected to be fodder for Jacobs, and completely flipped the script. . VERY FLUID. . Very good power and speed, but more importantly, TIMING. . . He "understands" boxing on a scientific level. . . Extremely high ring IQ. 3.) Felix Sturm - Probably should have lost to Murray, and Macklin, but it wasn't really the blatant robbery like some make out; he landed some hard, clean shots. Very good, tight, guard. . . Good jab. . Good power. Speed is just meh. . . If he beats Zbik convincingly, then he proves why he belongs here. 4.) Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam - One of my favorites! Prolly should have lost to Lee in the ammy's. . . But I LOVE his style! That fast, sleek guy who fights off the backfoot with a high workrate. . EVERYTHING off the jab! Straight rights off the jab! Hooks off the Jab! Uppercuts off the jab! Very good speed and power. . . Lets hope he ups his competition level in 2012-2013. 5.) Daniel Gaele - Underrated slickness. . . Resume leaves something to be desired, but I thought he beat Mundine. . . And to go into Germany and beat Sylvester who is a solid boxer, says a lot. . . Probably should be higher than Pirog, but I just feel that he will lose to Pirog hwen they fight in August (LETS HOPE IT GETS PUT TOGETHER ON HBO!!! Boxnation for my british brethren!) 6.) Chavez Jr. Really doesn't deserve the hate he gets. For having NO AMMY EXPERIENCE, he has came a long way. His draw and win (although controversial) over Carlos Molina is looking better. . This was in his early career as well. . . Zbik is a very good little boxer, and I thought Chavez JUST nicked it with his inside body work. He definitely proves his mettle if he beats Lee (NOT by robbery). 7.) Andy Lee. Good technician. Very good outside fighter with excellent straight left, and right hook to boot. Uses his jab more of a range-finder, and "set-up", rather than an actual point scoring, painful punch. We'll learn A LOT if he can keep Chavez off him, and piece him up over 12. 8.) Peter Quillin. Has just as much upside as Pirog. . . Probably the best athlete of hte lot aside from Sergio. Kinda sloppy at times, and more hittable than you'd think. . . Thought he got a gift stoppage against McEwan (one of the worst I've seen in recent memory), but to be fair, he was dominating. . . 9.) Golovkin. After seeing him struggling against a natural 147 pounder in Ouma, I questioned his ability. . . He was looking like a rock'em sock'em robot with his head getting bounced around, and snapped back. . . Lets see what happens. 10.) Matty Macklin. Showed he has a little more to his game against Martinez. . . I thought he won a good many of the early and mid rounds, but he kinda tired out, and Martinez was studying him round by round, and eventually got the kill. . . Still, his performance against Sergio was nothing to be ashamed of. A little better than Barker's. I have faith Dibella, and HBO will bring him back.
He beat Murray was never a draw and did lose to Macklin. Sturm is very under rated on the forum. He just needs to be more active in his fights not just the last 30 seconds of every round!
If anything Sturm was robbed vs Murray...Sturm won clearly and they gave him a draw also Pirog is too high he really hasnt beaten anyone Id have Chavez higher and NJikam lower id also have Quillen above Lee
Strum should have lost Macklin, thought he edged Murray though, 1. Martinez: Don't think anyone else can be here. 2. Geale: Had him up against Mundine and went to Germany to be Sylvester 3. Chavez JR: Don't think anyone else in the division deserves to be higher, has beat Zbik and Rubio, very good victories for someone who as previously said hasn't got any amateur exp 4. Pirog: Could be higher if it was a suspected talent ranking, but he hasn't proved either to merit being above the other three 5. Lee: I don't rate this division as that great, can't think of anyone else who would beat lee. 6. Barker: See comparison of how well he did against Martinez compared to Macklin 7. Macklin: Defeated Sturm, therefore proved he belongs in the elite set. 8. Sturm: Might have had two close fights with people who i doubt would even touch him in his prime, but he is still a champion. 9. Quillin: Seen him a few times, looks impressive. 10. Hope: EBU champion therefore automatically on this list, plus beat Proska. Serious 10. Golovkin: Talent is clear, needs to step up to get higher up the rankings. Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam only heard of him recently and seems to beat nobodies. Martin Murray lost to sturm plus hasn't proved much.
Spot on list Elliot... If Chavez jnr beats lee clearly than I will give him a bigger rap, geale v pirog looks to be the best fight of the lot...winner v Martinez , N'jikam has fought bum after bum good athlete but not at 'A' level yet
1. Martinez skills, athletic, power he's a top fighter 2. Golovkin still unterrated by most boxing fans i think the will be a top p4p fighter in a few years and could beat everyone at 160, 168 and 175 but he needs to fight a big name at 160 (hopefully Sturm) 3. Pirog Great fighter great style gives everyone problems 4. Geale 5. Matthew Macklin beat Sturm and gave Martinez some trouble 6. Sturm overrated paperchamp lost vs Macklin and is ducking Golovkin since years but will beat Zbik 7. Lee 8. Chavez Jr 9. Barker 10. Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam
As far as i Know N'Jikam had a chance to fight Golovkin and ran like a little Girl,no way I would put him ahead of Golovkin.!!!!
He ducked Golovkin 4 times then when he was finally forced to fight him N'jikam dropped his WBA INterm belt rather than Unify with Golovkin. HE also backed out of a Pirog fight recently. Lorenzo dropped him and Khurtsidze arguably won their fight yet no mention of him. TS Khurtsidze should be in your top 5 based on how high N'jikam is Maksym Bursak is on par with Lee, Quillin, Macklin You rate Quillin too highly, his athleticism is nothing special Golovkin is top 3 imo. Ouma is not a WW, he's a natural JMW and Golovkin walks around at 160 and is a natural JMW himself. Ouma gave Taylor trouble and was 31 just having beat Vanes Martirosyan, dropping him, and got robbed. Gennady beat the **** out of him, stopped him for the first time in over a decade and hospitalized him. Most importantly the way he fought in that fight is not his usual style, he wanted to beat Ouma at his own game and i suspect work on his infighting with new trainer Abel Sanchez.
I don't know. . . Ouma is a tiny ass dude compared to Golovkin, and he was straight ROCKING Golovkin until Golovkin finally settled in the pocket. I bet Golovkin had at least 10 pounds on him in the ring. Lol no way Golovkin walks around @ 160 . . . Maybe 170. . . It's just with all that hype around him, and he looked like a flat footed, slow, one-dimensional brawler. . I rate N'Dam's competition in Khursidze and Lorenzo above Ouma (at 160). N'Jikam/Khurtsidze was a very good fight; excellent style clash of outside guy vs inside guy. . Thought J'ikam won a close fight. . Khurtisdize is probably around 12-15ish. . Ultimately, I just think N'Jikam has a lot more potential to go further. . . We'll see soon enough. And Quillin would KO Golovkin based off what I've seen thus far. . .
Have to agree Golovkin would be in my Top 3 it's no coincidence there are quite a few Big name Middleweights that want nothing to do with him, cant wait to see who will be the fisrt of these so called Big names that has the Courage to fight Gennady.!!!!and as far as Quillin knocking out Golovkin Big Call had over 200 amature fights and now with 20 Pro fights and he has never been TKOd not only has he enormous power in both hands he has a good chin also think Quillin will have nothing to do with him.!!!!
Rocked implies hurt, Ouma landed some good uppercuts but no. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about in regards to Golovkin's style and haven't seen much of him. Golovkin and Sanchez saying he walks around at 161 and could fight as a JWM. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBvA41GnejI&feature=related[/ame] Khurtsidze 12-15? Put him in there with Sturm or Chavez and he'll have a belt. Also Zbik beat Chavez clearly. When you outland your opponent more than 2 to 1 (some rounds 3-1) in 9 rounds of the fight you don't lose.
No, I know exactly what I'm talking about. I saw Golovkin get tooled around by little ass Ouma WAAYYY more than a guy with his credentials, and hype should have. . . I have seen plenty of Golovkin, but I don't really take into consideration how he performs against guys he is supposed to steamroll. . . Ouma was one of those guys, and we saw Golovkin get his head straight BOUNCED. . . He tries to be a "counterpunching" pressure fighter, but he's too slow, and unbalanced to be effective against a world class caliber opponent. . . He's a good boxer/puncher, but I don't see him standing up to guys with good power. . Throw in a guy with speed as well, and he's donezo. . . Sergio Martinez trainer, and handlers say he walks around at 160 when we know that's a lie (he weighed 176 at the 30 day weigh-in against Williams). . . I don't believe what fighters and their trainers say. . . They're going to say what makes them look the best, and there's nothing wrong with that. I thought Zbik/Chavez was close, and could have gone either way. . . There was nothing "clear" about that fight regarding who won. This is evinced, and buttressed by many boxing fans; majority believe it was a very close fight, with some favoring Zbik, and some favoring Chavez. This is all subjective, and that's the beauty of boxing. . . I just happen to have a different perspective than you about Golovkin, and other boxers. . . I'm glad not everybody thinks the same. . . Only time will tell who is correct.
Simon went 12 rounds with Big hitting Abrahams and then did not last a round with Golovkin,in fact Simon had never been TKOd before untill he met Gennady,be very carefull on making an opinion on Golovkin on one fight he is a feared Middlewight make no mistake.!!!
1. Sergio 2. Geale Geale has the next best resume combined with both visible skills and recent accomplishments.
