    And no mention of Briggs?

He's in the top 10 for heavies with first one KO's...

Good mention, Briggs is way up there when pure power is concerned.

Yeah, I'm surprised he was every able to knock ANYONE out late because of his stamina/breathing issues.

No wonder he started so fast. Seen some BRUTAL KO's from the guy.

Made more of a dent in Lennox than most as well.

Foreman's power was largely dissipated in the 90's. I'm not sure Brewster was even fighting yet. Ruddock deserves inclusion. And where is Courage Tshambalala? For KO'ing tomato-cans, he was really good.

Wasn't Courage that unbelievably hyped African guy?

Supposedly Ko'd 72 of 73 opponents as an amateur IN THE FIRST ROUND. That translated into... well, not much success as a pro.

Thank you Magoo. You're right about Bruno and Mason. I fancy Bruno would be quite high up on the list.

Fair points there Russell. I think we must sometimes distinguish between how effectively a boxer punches and how hard he punches. Lennox was a more effective puncher than Ruddock, no question. He picked his punches better, had better accuracy, maybe timing was a factor, etc. But for brute force, Ruddock's 'smash' was hard to beat, imo.

Cooper caught Holyfield with a dream right hand, and landed several other hard shots. I don't recall Mercer ever landing such clean punches. In any event, you're probably right - Coop should be higher on the list.

As for Moorer, well...what can I say? I just think he hit pretty hard. I saw him knock Mike 'The Giant' White flat on his face with a short, sharp right hand in the first round, and although Mike White is not an opponent that was any kind of yardstick, it was the way the punch felled him that was impressive. (White incidently was 6'10", 280 lbs.) Ironically, White survived several knockdowns to last to the final bell; the first Moorer opponnent to do so.
His war with Cooper was another good demonstration of his power.

Perhaps I'll alter the list at some point.

From the initial choices, in order:

    David Tua
    Lennox Lewis
    Wladimir Klitschko
    Tommy Morrison
    Vitali Klitschko
    George Foreman (comeback)
    Ike Ibeabuchi
    Corrie Sanders
    Herbie Hide
    Lamon Brewster

If Tyson was included he'd slot in ahead of Morrison in the Top 3. Ruddock wouldn't be too far behind him.

Huh. I know this forum doesn't like Hide much, but no one thinks highly of his power?

Evander Holyfield fought Tyson,Bowe,Lewis and Foreman and said Foreman hit harder. Shannon Briggs fought Lennox Lewis and George Foreman and said Foreman hit harder ( I know Lewis knocked out Briggs but that was because Briggs ran from Foreman). Who did Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko knock out in the 90s"

Clearly Foreman was the harder puncher up until his last few fights and even then he still puncher harder than most of these guys.

I think Tommy MOrrison hit harder than Foreman did, punch for punch. Corrie Sanders could definately bang, as could Herbie Hide...A very good list with a lot of big punchers on there. I'd say David Tua, Tommy Morrison and Lennox Lewis should be right near the top.

Very reasonable list and rankings. I think u have it just about right. I think Tua, Morrison and Ruddock could almost be interchangeable, probably Lewis as well.
