    Jose Napoles
    Wilfredo Gomez
    Wilfred Benitez
    Floyd Mayweather Jr

At their best, who was the most impressive, most effective, and all-round best fighting machine in terms of skill and ability?

One of them hasn't proved his skillset as much as the others IMO, and therefore appears more untouchable.

Gomez in the Davila fight blew my mind.

    Napoles
    Gomez
Benitez (super skilled but lackadaisical at times)

    Floyd

How big is the gap between Napoles and Gomez in your mind Flea?

Well, in terms of them both being offensive orientated fighters with the ability to judge distance to a tee, fluidity of combos etc etc I'd say they're very close.

Napoles more durable, Gomez more pure power.

Bloody close, but in ATG standings I'd have Napoles between 20-30 and Gomez between 50-60 probably.

    1. Wilfredo Gomez-At his best was an unhittable fighter who countered w/ knockout power after making his opponant miss. But became enthralled w/ his power and turned kamakazi. Saw Gomez live against Baba Jimenez and was blown away. EASILY in the top five fighters I saw in my lifetime.:good
    2. Napoles
    3. Benitez
    4. Mayweather-I think Shane beats him, but even them, Loyd is still cherrypicking an old man and not fighting prime guys. He could have fought Margo., Cotto, Shane, Casamayor, Frietes, Tzysu, etc. and EVERYTIME after Castillo, took the easy route. This will hurt him in the future just as it has hurt Roy Jones. Jones os still fighting to secure a legacy he allowed to slip away by fighting secondrate, fighters. In May. case, it is smaller and second rate and older fighters. If Shane wins at his advanced age, the Maywether myth is permanatly ruined as Jones' was with Tarver.:viking

So you think Floyd will get beat by Shane but have already decided that if he does win hes picking on a old man? I'm sorry but that dont make sense to me im not saying Mosley is peak but hes still a good fighter. As for the thread i'd most probably have them Napoles, Mayweather, Gomez, Benitez most probably won't be popular but its my opinion.

Fleaman dont you think that it hurts Gomez that he couldnt replicate his 122 form at Feather? Thats the main reason that I have him in third.

I can see what you mean, but this is a skillset argument.

Benitez has a claim as no.1 no doubt.

Gomez didn't do that great at 126 but even post-Sal Sanch at 122 he was a demon. He was similar to his Puerto Rican brother in the sense that he relied on his natural ability a little too much and didn't always train hard, but as a phenom Gomez still impresses me now.

Whether or not he would fit into a pre super bantam scene I don't know, could he have maintained his form whilst struggling to make 118 or giving up lbs to 126ers (which he proved he couldn't sustain)?

I'm not sure. But to the thread question, I'm happy with my picks:good

Ive seen a decent amount of Gomez, Mayweather & Benitez but not enough of Napoles TBH & even if you take out Napoles, I still find it too hard to split these guys.

I honestly cant pick, these choices are amongst the hardest Ive had to choose on ESB in these type threads before.

The 130 lb Mayweather & the 122 lb Gomez MIGHT have an edge over Benitez but Im nowhere near sure about this, I find it hard to split Gomez & FMJ.

Great reply. Napoles for me is the best I belive the rest to be interchangable depending on what you like. Didn't know of Gomez's lax training habits tbh the man was special at 122 no doubt.

Im gonna have to go with Mayweather I think, his defence, timing, punch accuracy & technique are phenomenal... keep in mind, Im not saying he`s greater than these guys, they have all fought better fighters likely but its just an opinion on what Ive seen in their skillsets.

Its the punch accuracy that swings it for me, outstanding.

I`ll probably get slaughtered here on the classic for such a pick but it is what it is, so be it.

No. I think Shane will win. But, Maywether only seems to fight him now that he is older and wouldn't touch the other guys in their primes. And as for Princess Fleaman, w/ all the years and experience in the sport that he has, how can he ever be wrong. Of course someone his age that lives on youtube highlights and boxrec knows more than everyone else and should be considered THE authority on the sport. REAL experience means nothing on these boards, just a parifery dime-store knowledge of the sport. Right Princess Fleaman?
