If you think Hopkins resume is better than Toney's then you join the other poster as ****** of the month on ESB.
Its at the very least debatable mate. Its whether you like Hopkins dominance, consistency and longevity over Toney's weight jumping abilities and top shelf wins...which are surely tainted by his drug use at any rate.
toney's best wins though, to me, don't even match up to hopkins best. the trinidad, pavlik, wright, wins are better to me than nunn, barkley and holyfield
lol i hope you're joking me. Those 3 that you listed, Toney's > B-hops. Plus you could add 5X the amount of names to Toney's. Well i look at it like this. Could Toney beat the guys Hopkins did and run a horrendous, shitty, pitiful 160 era that B-Hop did, of course. Could B-Hop beat the guys Toney did. **** no. If you rank Hopkins resume ahead of Toney's cuz his weak ass title defense stat i don't know what to say to you. You go by who they beat. Toney has beaten better fighters and many many many more of them.
but did he? even though he was in his prime he lost to dave tiberi and his light heavy time wasn't much. to be honest, i guess we'll have to disagree about hopkins and toney's most significant wins. i rank tito above any one win toney had. nunn was good but the win wasn't great. barkely was toney at his brilliant best and i've always said that toney is the second best super middle of all time and one of the most talented i've ever seen. the holyfield win doesn't count for much with me but it was a solid win. that's it. other than that you have two loses to peter, two losses to griffin and a wipe out against jones.
I know, it's insane that anyone could possibly have Toney LAST on resume. He faced: Mike McCallum 3x, twice when McCallum was a top MW Iran Barkley, when Barkley was a top SMW Roy Jones when Jones was in/near his peak Michael Nunn when Nunn was undefeated, the consensus top MW in the world, and ranked top 5 P4P Reggie Johnson Montell Griffin 2x Hasim Rahman 2x, once when Rahman held a title Sam Peter 2x Vassily Jirov John Ruiz Then there's other contenders he faced like Tim Littles and Merqui Sosa. And to think, Toney wasted too many years, and still faced this high level of opposition.
:thinkhmmm, maybe i should rethink toney's resume a bit. i always forget that jirov win, which was brilliant
Put these names up then mate...You keep saying Toney has beaten many, many, many more names and 5x as many as Hopkins but please do tell of these names. Toney beat: Nunn McCallum Barkley Jirov Old Holy Hopkins beat: Trinidad Winky Tarver Pavlik Blown up Hoya Arguably Calzaghe in a growing amount of people's eyes..He also has at least one win over Taylor, I dont care what anybody says. As I have already said Toney I feel has better top shelf wins but if you look a little deeper you can see Hopkins has done pretty well for himself with his consistent domination of his 2nd tier opposition. Whereas James has had a lot of close calls, come from behind wins and losses and draws he really shouldnt have had. Would Toney beat Hopkins' opposition? Hells yeah. Would Bernard get fat, out of shape, take roids and lose to Drake Thadzi, hells no. Im not even trying to dispute you on this, just saying its debatable and Im giving you a chance to state your case but if you want to look at everything black and white and call people childish names then you can keep doing that buddy.
Regardless of his resume calzaghe is 46-0 lets remember this, and is the ONLY EVER linear supermiddleweight champion. He also has more title defenses than Bernhard Hopkins which swings it for me to place him second. Roy in his prime was too good can't see him getting beat by anyone. I have noticed Calzaghe has far too many haters on here though. He beat who he had to beat lets respect that. For both Head to Head and legacy. 1. Jones 2. Calzaghe 3. Bernhard Hopkins 4. Toney
No, Calzaghe is the only super middleweight champion to hold 4 belts (WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO). The lineage began with Sutherland, who later lost to Park. Calzaghe re-established the lineage that had been lost due to vacancy.
No one with any athletic ability would ever rate Joe with these other fighters - but dweebs on ESB seem to need to throw this one guy into every conversation ... sort of like this era's GWH. Here: Great fighters = RJJ, Hopkins, Toney Second rate protected fighters = Calzaghe = Ottke Got it? If you weren't around when they fought to watch their careers in context and can't see the difference I suggest you obtain their fights and watch EVERY round of all these fighter's careers .. if you still can't see the difference you are clearly a bigoted non-athlete who is destined to be a permanent internet poster. You'll be quite at home on ESB.
