No disrespect to Joe who in his own right is a great fighter, he doesnt belong with those fighters. If those wins has happened between 1997-2002 then he would belong. But Hopkins and Jones lost to Joe at a point were they were losing to lesser fighters anyways. Jones Hopkins Toney Calzaghe.
I don't understand how Calzaghe could be ahead of Toney. Does Calzaghe have a single win as good as Nunn, Mccallum, Jirov, or Holyfield? I guess the Hopkins win is close, but that's about it. Yeah, Toney lost a couple, but imagine Joe fighting the exact same competition, I seriously doubt he would have come close to Toney's level of success. Calzaghe was more consistent, but Toney has better wins.
I know right??? Most of the people that say that doesnt have a clue as to the guys that Toney was running though. they forget that Toney was at one point P4P, or flat never knew. Old Jones, Old Hopkins, Kessler just isnt good enough to put Joe in the places that his fans want to put him.
I feel badly for the true boxing fans of the world. The nuthugging cumdrinking nationalists are a disgrace to them all.
That because Joe run a gaunlet of the who's not of boxing for 10 years. Truth be told Joe wasnt anymore consistent he just fought lesser fighters, were simply he was just much better then the guys he was fighting. I dont think that anyone thinks that Joe could have gone though the resumes of any of the other three and came out unbeatten. Likewise I think that if the other three would have faced the fighters that Joe did at the same points in thier careers they would have all came out unbeatten.
very tough to rank these four cause they are all ATGers but here goes! 1. roy jones jr. - arguably nobody in boxing ever has had better skills than this guy. the only thing that keeps him out of the top ten ATG list is his weak opposition. 2. joe calzaghe - toss up between him and bernard hopkins but i've got to go with joe because of his undefeated record. head to head fight between them in their prime would be a toss-up imo. 3. bernard hopkins - one of boxing's top three middleweights in history right behind carlos monzon and marvin hagler. defended title a middle record 20 or 21 times which is phenomenal. 4. james toney - no slouch himself but someone has to finish last on this list.
Head to Head Toney vs. Calzaghe = Calzaghe wins Toney vs. Jones = Jones wins easily. Bad style matchup. Toney vs. Hopkins = Hopkins competitively. Hopkins vs. Jones = Jones wins competitively, but Hops is very live. Hopkins vs. Calzaghe = Hopkins wins competitively Jones vs Calzaghe = Jones competitively. Bothered by Cal's speed. Legacy #1 Hopkins #2 Jones #3 Calzaghe #4 Toney It seems like Im rating Toney too low maybe, but this is comparing him against great fighters. All four of these guys are great. Also, I think all four are bad style matchups. They all move better than him, and should be able to work him from the outside. He's better against guys who come to him.
1. Jones 2. Hopkins/Toney tied (It's hard for me to seperate since both of them are amazing boxers.....I would have LOVED to see this fight happen in their primes it would've been ****en great. 4 Calzaghe
