No he didn't. Benvenuti and Torres were right smack dab in their primes when Tiger upset them both, and Giardello was still in his prime the first time he beat him (before they were champs).

 

If anything Torres caught Tiger at the right time...away from his best weight, being 7 years his junior and towards the end of Dick's career.
But still couldnt best him.

 

I guess I need to do more research of Tiger and see more of his fights. I've seen him in failure but not in triumph.

Touche. Of course, I know who he is, but to me he was a very strong fighter who won fights more from brute strength and relentless pressure fighting than actual talent. All of the other guys were accomplished champions who were a bit more technical.

 

The inside aggressors and pressure fighters like Armstrong and co show a different kind of skill in their own right tho. His performance against Fullmer was brutal.

 

Dick Tiger has some of the best overall god given talent of any fighter..His natural strength was amazing, his chin was among the best that the division has seen and he had a much better natural counter punching ability then often given credit for..Just have to look at the term "talent" in a different way to whats been drilled into your head over the years.
I personally dont believe that talent in boxing is just speed and athleticism.

Thread starter never stipulated it was purely a lightheavy ranking though anarci. In fact I think the fact he states that three of the fighters make his top 50 alltime list, he means p4p.

 

Yeah, you definitely need to get on that research.

 

Does that making him worse than those? I mean he had success with his talents. I don't make any difference between guys who rely on athletic abilities, strength, pressure, boxing brain or technically abilities. All those are important and brilliant in a different way.

 

Tiger was a very good technician imo.
