Hopkins JC Roy Jones Jr James Toney And i have a question for sweetpea... Why cant you see that Hopkins is a better fighter then Roy? And for that manner, maybe even Joe C is too. Let me say this.... When you have to be 10 times faster, better reflexes and more powerful then your opponent to win... that does not make you the better fighter. Roy was STILL FASTER then Joe... I garuntee you he had a bigger punch still, yet he lost 10 out of 12 rounds and was hardly competetive. He has a prey mentality despite his gifts... . Bernard Hopkins has less reflexes, less power, less speed... but because hes a BETTER FIGHTER he did better, and i bet you he would beat roy right now. People act like Jones is COMPLETELY SHOT... sorry, but when your still faster and more powerful then your opponents, theres no excuses to not be competetive. am i wrong? I was sad to see Roy lose tonight... but he has to show more heart. Yes he showed heart in SURVIVING, but theres a differance between having the heart to survive and having the heart to try and win. THAT BEING said, make no mistake i think Roy IS a great fighter.... you could give a lot of people superman level speed and power and not do HALF as much... i understand that, i understand that if you put some of the best athletes out there and go back in time and raised them as fighters, they still wouldnt be as great as roy... but that doesnt make him a better fighter then Hopkins.
1990s Jones JR. 97' Hopkins '03-05' Calzaghe 1990s Toney Im sorry but Ive seen what a prime RJ can do live. The 90s RJ is arguably one the most talented fighters to ever step in the ring.
You certainly are wrong sir. Obviously a poor boxing analyst if you thought speed and power were going to be Jones weaknesses. He showed he still has fast hands and good power in his last three fights in which he struggled with C level opposition. But what we didn't see from him that he had in his prime is work rate, legs, and reflexes. Of course Hopkins would beat Roy now, and this is coming from a Roy fan, and i said this before tonights fight. Hopkins doesn't know the meaning of the word shot, Jones has been struggling with sub-world class fighters ever since his Tarver loss. In terms of head to head ability: Jones Hopkins Calzaghe Toney
you're way off mikec. you simply dont understand the dynamics of boxing. roy is ****ing shot to bits and theres no other way around it.
there's already 10's of threads with this exact title... why don't you refer to them for the old arguments and points....it will save a lot of time
For me... Hopkins Roy Jones JC Toney I totally agree with you m'man... When you HAVE to have almost every physical advantage to beat your opponent (Every roy fight just about) , are you a very good fighter? OBVIOUSLY... but FOR ME they will never rank higher then the guys who can OVERCOME those advantages, let alone HAVE them and still not dominate (roy vs tito) Again im not saying Roy isnt a great fighter.... being the second best fighter of your size and era IS STILL GREAT... LOL!!! I just think Hopkins is better.
I hate to be rude mate, but thats just plain horse ****. You look at a fighter as the fighter they are, you don't subtract points for having good handspeed, or natural explosive power. To do that would be ridiculous, and you are only being narrowminded in saying it. I have no problem with anyone rating Hopkins higher than Jones, they are very close imo, but the indication that a fighter is something less than another, purely because they had natural gifts (how do we know his training from a young age didn't play a big part in his speed and power?) is stupid. If you are going to say something like that, you have to apply it to all your judgements, and if you did, many of the greatest fighters of all time are going to be sold short because of it.
