This fight showed that rahman punch for punch probably did hit harder than tyson because he dropped berbick badly after the first right hand from him. the guy was a complete beast.simply he could not finish the job because he was not a great finisher

 

I understand your point but we are not comparing Trevor Berbick with George Chuvalo but with Jimm Bradock, a career light heavyweight with a very short heavyweight career .. Holmes was a solid puncher who hit Berbick hard and often, Berbick took it .. Page, Thomas, Tate, Bey, ST Gordon, Simms were all at least very solid punchers and he took the shots .. to me that is more proven than getting stopped by a Louis who took his time in a title bout and a victory over an over confident, under trained Baer .. I would say Berbick had a very solid heavyweight chin ..

I think Joe Louis should rate #1 on this list. He fought more good punchers over a longer period than anyone else. Interesting to me that he is viewed as having just an ordinary chin. Schmeling pounded on him all night. Marciano pounded for quite a while also, and Marciano stopped everyone.

It is interesting to me that Dempsey who was also knocked down and staggered a lot is viewed as having a great chin, and Louis a bad one. Louis might well have taken a punch better.

I also don't see getting knocked down as necessarily a prelude to getting knocked out. A lot of fighters, such a Robinson, were down quite a bit, but very rarely actually stopped, and generally could snap back to top fighting form within seconds.
