Canto's competition was far superior than that of Lopez...Plus, he pretty much gave up alot in size almost every time..Cant say the same for Finito. Also a lock for being a top 3 Flyweight of all time, which is a far deeper division than Straw. If not for his inconsistence, Olivares would had probably been the greatest Mexican fighter of all time, with no question...His resume is still superior than that of Finito's, he is a lock for top 3 ATG Bantams, which is much much more deeper than Straw as well, and at his best was a better fighter than him as well. And Saldivar's resume's is flat out better than Finito's, it's not even funny.
Anarci, you're my dude but Lopez and the 3 amigos over Olivares, Saldivar, and Canto is just flat out ridiculous.
My own list: Chavez Sanchez Zarate (boy, he seems to be massively underrated on this list) Saldivar Olivares (the inconsistency comments ring true) Canto Barrera Lopez Morales Azteca
That wasn't my list, just the fighters listed in abc order. Posted mine numerically ranked in another post. I personally think Zarate is the #2 bantamweight of all-time and the greatest thing since sliced bread, or something close to that.
The fact Sanchez even has a horse in the race is a testament to his unbelievable talent and level of opposition in a very small timeframe. We know Lopez had acquired the lineal title and was one of the great punchers of his era, a very good champion who found his way to the Hall. Sanchez defeated him twice, both by KO. Wilfredo Gomez, obviously an even bigger monster who had compiled 32 consecutive KO victories and came in a 2-to-1 favorite. Azumah Nelson, who although still somewhat green, wouldn't lose another fight for EIGHT Years post-Sanchez. Or how about Ruben Castillo, who's only loss prior to the bout was to the great Alexis Arguello. Sanchez handed him his first career defeat @ 126. How about future champion Juan La Porte or rated Patrick Ford, Roberto Castanon... All of this done inside of three years. :deal
Have to admit I know ****all about Kid Azteca, but a look at boxrec and his wiki and it seems like you could easily put JMM and a couple other guys ahead of him. Is he that much of a legend in Mexico?
This. He has Lopez in his top 30 P4P....and Shane Mosley in his top 50. Great way to get a grasp on someone's standing.
Your feelings hurt about Dick Tiger? Poor baby. Dick Tiger isn't the greatest MW ever. Santa doesn't exist. The Easter Bunny doesn't run on Everready batteries. Am I your #1 enemy in the world yet? Want to follow me thru a couple more threads? Unlike some I can admit when my knowledge is lacking. I don't know much about Kid Azteca Fleaman. Since you seem to think looking at his wiki page and his boxrec is SUCH a stupid way to find out, maybe I should just go asking random Mexican looking dudes on the street? ****ing moron. Too bad we can't all be like you, knowing everything about every fighter who ever stepped in the ring without ever having to look him up. What a talent!
The Classic Forum is my room. That little area over there (the General Forum), that's your area. This is my room, that's your area. Stay in your area, stay out of my room. Back. The. ****. Off.
He's right up there. In fact I concede that this isn't the case a lot of the time. I might've already done it already regarding Azteca in this thread actually. But I also agree that a quick skim over face value decisions isn't the best way to get a good handle on someone, especially if you're not really aware of which fighters on said face value records are actually of any quality anyway.
I don't think it's that rank a notion anymore, especially if you consider him to have gotten the better of Pacquiao in their series. Some bumps along the way at 126 but with a solid career pre-135, becoming the true Champ' at Lightweight with some good wins there, and his ability, I don't think it's that crazy anymore. He can't be far off Barrera and Morales nowadays, and you regularly see them highly on ATG Mexican lists. JMM is an ace fighter. I also don't agree you can argue him to be greater than any one of Carlos Ortiz, Wilfred Benitez or Wilfredo Gomez, although I'm sure someone will try.
